My last night in Goa, in Paloloem (the place with too many Israelis, but just enough hummus) I met a cool French guy who was staying in the same place as me called SuperMax! He was part gypsy (but French gypsy, the cool kind, not the pikey kind) and half Polish, and had a goose as a guard dog in his house in France. He had hardly any stuff with him, and made me ashamed of my huge rucksack, which I've decided I need to repack into a smaller bag once I see one. He'd been to Goa before (it seems everyone has) and took me out to his friends bar. Turns out, the place I'd been in North Goa, Cocktails and Dreams, that had hundreds of cocktails on the menu, also has a branch in ... read more

So after struggling to get to grips with the one way system here and the narrow lanes of the bazaar that look excactly the same, we decided to get a rickshaw to meet our friends we met in Goa. We were already running late by one hour due to getting lost coming back to the hotel, so we could get cleaned up before going out. First of all we met up with Namita and Ritu. Since we were a bit stressed out by our lack of sense of direction they decided to take us to a reasonably quiet place to have some nice food. Reasonable quiet by there standards was still pretty loud as their music of choice was metal, the heavier the better! After having a really nice steak, Priya came and joined us, who ... read more

We made it!!!!! London to Bangalore on the 24th January 2010! After having an emotional goodbye from friends and family we said Laters Potaters!!! Air India took care of us for 13 hours with a taste of the dishes of what was to come when we arrive in India- obviously much better in India I hope! After haggling with some taxi drivers outside Bangalore Int Airport, we made our way to our first guest house, under and over taking cars and buses across all four lanes of traffic. On Arrival we were greeted by two ecstatic guest house owners who proceeded to show us photo album after photo album of EVERY past guest over chai and biscuits - knowing all their names and countries! After enduring a 13 hour flight, crazy taxi driving and an over ... read more

Hey! I think I am finally mastering the auto rickshaw in India. Well… the auto drivers in Bangalore are way nicer to foreigners than the ones on Delhi so I guess that’s not saying to much. I mean, I still get the constant calls for 100 rupees for a ride to the other end of the street. But now I know that a ride like that would only cost either 20 or 40 rupees. I say both 20 and 40 rupees because some of the auto meters are totally rigged! You get in and hold your breath in hopes of slowing the meter down. These meters go up ½ a rupee every 5 second whereas the normal auto’s meter will go up every 10 -12 seconds. Oh it’s so annoying! Every time I get into an ... read more

Tuesday, Dec 1st - Bangalore I really can’t believe it’s December already. I think I haven’t ever felt so unchristmassy as I feel right now. But anyways… Sunday was very relaxed. I didn’t really do anything except for hanging out at the guesthouse garden and talking to this really awesome and interesting woman from Hamburg. She also works as a yoga teacher and gave me a Kundalini lesson. Really liked it! So, amazing things do happen in India! For example when you get a random call on a Sunday morning by a person that you thought you’d never see again in your life. It was extremely hard for me to accept the fact that it wasn’t on me anymore to get in contact. Everyone pretty much said: Well, you’re gonna see each other again if it’s ... read more

So today I got to experience a bit of modern India. Bindu took me shopping around the neighborhood here where she lives. We went to a store that sold Indian crafts. Then we went to a grocery store, Food Zone, and then we went to the mall. We were going to go to the bookstore so I could pick up a book but we got off on the wrong floor. We just happened to be outside of a salon, so on a whim we decided to get pedicures. I got a fancy one where they soaked my feet in pineapple juice and then massaged my feet and legs with coconut milk. Bindu got the basic pedicure and also a manicure. it was fun to just sit there together and visit for awhile. After the pedicures we ... read more

Just a quick note. Bindu and I went to a Bollywood movie last night at a mall not far from their house. I guess I've been spending so much time looking at palaces and temples, that I totally have been missing modern India. So it was nice to see a mall. Believe it or not they had a Baskin-Robbins and a KFC. Along with popcorn at the movie you could get simosas (potatos/veggies/spices in a dough that is deep fried) and chaat (not sure how to describe that). You have assigned seats and there is always an intermission during the movie. Also someone comes thru the theatre during the movie with popcorn to buy like at a ballgame at home. We saw a comedy. Since there were no subtitles I didn't get most of the jokes ... read more
