"What may matter not, at the end of the day, is how many conversations you had, how many friends you made, how many places you visited.... ....sometimes, things that do not matter are fun. " Sometimes, you just want to break free. It's not that difficult too. Sometimes. Had had enough of staying put in Gurgaon, the king of concrete cities as far as I know, and so, not anymore delayed for want of company, decided to head out to the Himachal lands for a weekend. Day 1 An overnight train to Pathankot, with time spent on the floor of the train for want of ticket confirmation, and a couple of hours whiled away at the sleepy little station, brought upon the time of departure of the Kangra Valley train journey. One of the more beautiful ... read more

I had hoped that some day I might see Tibet, the roof of the world. However, until China returns the country to its rightful owners and stops brutalising its people and destroying its traditions, I'll make do with Tibet in exile. Mike Fossey, March 2013 In March of 1959, after an epic journey on foot over the Himalayas, Tibet's spiritual leader, Tenzin Gyatso - His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, crossed through the Khenzimana Pass into India. Days earlier, in Tibet's capital Lhasa, the people had risen up against Communist China's occupation of their country for the past eight years. The uprising was brutally put down. The tiny Tibetan army was outnumbered and out-gunned. More than 85,000 were said to have been killed. Those members of the Dalai Lama's bodyguards who'd remained behin... read more

Aber wo ... read more

The past few weeks have been really intense...I knew how much Dharamsala had to offer and made sure not too miss my chance this year to soak it all up! And it didn't dissapoint. I got to study all the things I wanted to learn about and even had time in between courses to take a few hikes up into the mountains. I was even fortunate enough to be here when the Dalai Lama himself came to give teacihngs in his temple. How special to be in his hometown to hear him speak. I was able to attend 2 different teachings of his on Buddhism. He spoke in Tibetan so I had to listen through a translator but every now and then I could here his adorable, childish giggle. You would never know he was in ... read more

Namaste, I've spent the last few weeks in a much quieter environment than the 3 previous months and have a lot of time to reflect on the events of this trip....it left me with lots to share! But I think rather than bore you with details of where I've been these past few weeks, I'll summarize for you what India means to me...the positive and negative experiences and emotions I've had in this crazy place. For the most part (as I'm sure you can ascertain from my previous blogs) I am in love with this country. but that doesn't mean my trip hasn't also come with frustration, anger and even sadness. I don't want to leave anything out. So...my India is... -chai shops; they are on every corner, there are more of them than there are ... read more

Spent the last week in McLeod Ganj, Upper Dharamsala. McLeod Ganj was a mountain station during the British Raj, named after the assistant governor of neighboring Punjab state. Teachings with His Holiness were amazing, but for security purposes no camera allowed. I spent last Sunday composing an update here, only to have it vapourize into cyberspace upon saving. I'm in Bodhgaya now, and just wanted to post something here while I had the chance, and the few photos I was able to take there. I posted explanitive comment on some of them rather than elaborate in this blog post due to shortness of time. Further posts may not occur until after the 10. January when the Kalachakra teachings conclude.... read more

I arrived in McLeod Ganj at twighlight this morning. Made it in under 12 hours (and seemed less). Pulling into Dharamsala at night with the lights and the moon was fantastic. I arrived at the bus terminal up the road in McLeod Ganj, the largely Tibetan settlement of Dharamsala and was just mobbed by would-be "friends" and wanna-be porters. "My friend, my friend." Yeah, I'm your "friend" if I give you my rupees. Not. I'm glad I made it as there was a little bit of a fiasco concerningmy bus ticket yesterday. After checking out of my room, I queried about my ticket. The Tibetan morning hostes showed my I was ticketed for yesterday the 13th. I was in a dilema. I'd already checked out of my room, and the hotel was full (my room spoken ... read more
