We arrived in Hong Kong last night at 7pm into a busy and slightly confusing airport. Not quite sure of where we were supposed to go, it turned out you had to catch a tube train to the luggage pick up. Getting through customs was easy, we then caught the express train to Hong Kong central. The train ride was pretty eye opening, Hong Kong seems to be the city of a billion light bulbs and no one can remember to turn them off when they go out. It reminds me of the film Blade Runner. There were crazy neon lit football pitches and basketball courts and huge neon billboards everywhere. The train track ran through what can only be described as a pile of concrete spaghetti of roads passing above and below in all directions. The first thing that strikes you coming into central Hong Kong is the huge sky scrapers. The largest one is right outside the train station, not sure of the name but I will try and find out. We met Josh at the train station and then walked a short way to the ferry pier for our journey to Lamma Island where we are staying for
the fisher village
The fishing village where were staying the next two weeks. The ferry ride took about twenty minutes and allowed us to get a great view of the city by night.
Lamma Island is a strange little place it is full of small restaurants and small corner shop like places. There are no cars, but there are crazy locals that drive these small quad bike things down the narrow concrete pathways with worrying speed. I had to pull Claire out of the way of one this morning. When we first got here Josh took us for a walk down to the local sandy beach, which is very nice if you don’t count the HUGE industrial power station over looking it. This must be where they get the power for all those light bulbs.
Josh’s flat is located through the small collection of shops in the centre of the island. It is a small but is in a good location. It is at the top of a hill and on the third floor, it has a balcony over looking an area lush greenery and a view to the sea. Unfortunately the flat has no TV, fridge, cooker or even a toaster. So looks like we are
the streets of lamma
The streets of Lamma going to be living on take away which isn’t too bad as it is cheap and tastes great.
We will be buying a camera soon so then we will post some pictures.
Wish Some Of You Were Here
