Hi Everybody! The train journey from Beijing to Tibet was not a fun trip! We were bumped from our booked first class cabin by a delegation of Tibetans. Because of this, we were in a 6 person cabin and were very crowded. The cabin had no door so we had no privacy. We are just glad that part of our trip is over. In the temples are huge statues of Buddha. Most are in glassed in display boxes. The boxes have a slit in the glass for donations. People are putting money in as fast as they can.

The children in Tibet take a long lunch break - some up to 3 hr. These children are leaving the school. They wear different colored uniforms.

A sky burial was taking place on this mountain by Sera Monastery. The bones are crushed and put out with fat for vultures. Then, the body is chopped and put out.

Prayer flags are often put on mountain passes and other places where there might be danger. As the wind blows them, it brings positive forces to the area. This was above the Sera Monastery. We saw many from the train.

These stupors hold the cremated remains of monks. Most people in Tibet choose sky burial. They can also choose water or nature burial.

Food was thrown out on the sidewalk for this goat. The guide said that no one will bother or hurt this animal because it is a pet. It had pierced ears with ribbons running through them.

I have to admit that the Chinese have made some major improvements in Lhasa. This walkway is 2 yr. old, the train station is new, and the only highway out of town is new.

These carcasses of meat were on this sheet on the sidewalk all day for sale. Sometimes, I saw large slabs of meat on a table - no refrigeration. Can you understand why we didn't want to eat meat here?

We saw these weights regularly from the train. They are used to take the slack out of the lines.

This is the kind of broom that I have seen used daily on the streets, in hotels, etc. since I left home. Some of the ladies in Tibet wore high heels as they swept the street -- for the entire day.
