It seems a little silly to blog about license plates, however, for something so small, it has caught my attention in every country/state I've traveled to.

The shape of a license plate remains relatively same from continent to continent - normally a rectangle. Sometimes the rectangle varies a bit - maybe an elongated rectangle. Aside from the shape, everything else is different (e.g. colors, design, etc).

In Europe, every country has a different plate; which is not to difficult to fathom considering every state in the U.S. has a different license plate - there are even different designs in one state. Chinese plates are fairly simple and similar to european plates.

Based on what I've observed, the U.S. has the best, most creative license plates. Of course, it is not something Americans should boast about to foreigners. Hey, our license plates are way cooler than yours! Yeah, that would definitely decrease the annoying American stereotype of having to be the best at everything. (Note to readers: that was a sarcastic comment in case you missed it.)

Although, having said that the most creative designs that I've seen are in the U.S, it begs the question...are we wasting money on meaningless nicknacks? Perhaps, but if someone purchases a sunset-designed plate in the local Secretary of State Office, it is the government that benefits from it. Moreover, those colorful, uniquely-designed plates do offer us something else - games to play while on road trips! Drivers and passengers need several meaninless games to stay alert during those daunting 16-hour road trips. Am I right?! Trust me, I have done my fair share of 16-hour trips (in a day) taking my lovely sister to Miami University in Ohio. 😉 All fun and games sis!

Personally, I still miss the blue Michigan plates.
