McDonald's Delivery Guy
...Yes, you read that right, haha. Probably not as unhealthy as back in the US, but still not that good for you. It wasn't hard to find my first class, Differential Equations at 8am, just missed it by one floor, ha. Professor Geronimo, one of the four horseman of the mathematical classes at Tech, is teaching it but he doesn't seem that impossible. Half of the SSP group is in the class. I could barely recall any Calculus, but I followed him decently, though 2 hours is a bit long. Afterwards, a large group of us hit up a bakery near a McDonald's. I bought a strawberry cream bun, some cheese bread, and a "meat pie". The bun was delicious, the meat pie just tasted like an apple pie, and the cheese bread was quite sweet - never had anything like it before. It appears that they just glazed a semi-sweet sugar coat over the entire bread.
Scott, Ted, and I visited the Green Supermarket on the way back to SJTU to check the prices and selection. Still cheap and great variety, there were even appliances, clothes, and such on the second floor. Because I am always hungry, I bought a bowl, chopsticks, orange juice (only 30%...) and some noodles - like ramen, though they actually ban Ramen here. I

Very cheap, but I'm going to wait at least a month before I become desperate enough to try a Mcd's here, ha made it back to my room and checked to see if parents or friends were on Skype or MSN only to be dissapointed, ha, but gave me some time to try to start this blog! Chinese 1002 was at 1pm, though Ted, Ethan, and I were a bit late cause we tried the wrong building. I do not remember ANYthing from Chinese 1001, so it was a bit hard to keep up in class, but the teacher was understanding, especially with only six of us in the class.
Scott and Sean were the only ones that wanted to grab some food around 7pm so I headed out with them, right as it started raining! I had a jacket, but no umbrella and since we just kept walking and walking until finally we settled on a comfortable, non-chain looking sit-down restuarant...poor decision since none of us could read or speak much Mandarin. Eventually they brought out a very tiny and limited english menu, however I felt adventurous and just pointed to something with the character for "country" on the menu, thinking it'd be some famous dish - once again, don't do. It turned out I had ordered some form of tofu in Mandarin (orange) sauce, first few bites were good, but the plate was huge and by the end of the meal it felt like I had eaten half a jar of orange jelly. Oh and by the way, soft tofu is impossible with chopsticks!! Even just trying to lift under the pieces were hard, haha. When we got the bill they had charged us 25 RMB extra, possibly for the wet naps we used or the tea that was on the table, or just because we were foreigners. I tried to figure out what for and say it was too expensive, but I guess the charge was legit. Tomorrow, I'll be eating my noodles...
