Upon arriving at our apartment, all three of us could have gone straight to bed, but there was a reception dinner planned - and since we were the guests of honor, we kind of had to be there! The Management Team for Ace Mold was there as well as the General Manager’s family. The restaurant we went to was 100% Chinese, not even an English name I can write! We started in a big room where they had all of the available dishes made up for you to look at, and the waitress followed you around and wrote down what you wanted. I was sooooo glad to have someone helping me figure out what Leah and I could and couldn’t have! In the picture, the main courses were on the table (only one side shows) the ... read more

For our first full day in China, we were celebrating Mother's Day and our 29th Anniversary. Horton had said the night before that he would like to take us to the Sentosa Hotel for their breakfast buffet. This is the hotel where Jim used to stay when he was working for Tyco. Although it had been almost a year since he was last there, one of the waiters recognized him. We are now into our full 2nd day here in China, but some people have asked about the flight etc, so I will go back to that first. We left home at 5:15AM on May 8th, after having almost 4 hrs of sleep. Katelin dropped us off at the Greensboro Airport and our flight was on time with no problems. Upon arriving at Chicago O'Hare Airport, we had time to spare and were next to the food court, so got something to eat. We boarded the plane on time, but then sat and sat and sat - leaving more than an hour late supposedly because of paperwork they were trying to complete for some maintenance work done. I think all of our adrenaline had kicked in, because none of us were able to sleep. We read, ... read more

The big day arrives - my first day of teaching, and being the worry wort that I am I woke up at the ungodly hour of 5am. Sat in what was now a very untidy hotel room I went over the different classes I had that day and what I planned to teach them. It is at this point that I have to make two confessions, one I think is forgivable, the other can only be explained by temporary madness! As mentioned, I had woken up at 5am and by 6.30am I was not only ravenous but in dire need of a cup of coffee. And here, we come to my first confession - Nanqiao is a fairly small town and not really a twenty four hour place so at 6.30am if I wanted food and ... read more
