It is 2am and I can't sleep. After several hours of tossing and turning, then reading and writing, I decide sleeping is not going to come easy tonight. I need a walk. I get dressed and head downstairs. In the lobby the security guard in his chair and desk workers all put their heads up as I walk out of the stairwell. All trying to catch a few moments of sleep while they can. I walk outside through the revolving doors and head in the direction I am facing. Our hotel sits at an odd angle not quite facing the road on our already slanted street. It has been raining off and on the past few days leaving everything damp but cooler so it is a fair tradeoff. As of right now the date is Saturday, June 25th, 2011 and it has been a busy week already. Usually I would have written in my blog already by now but things have been happening one right after the other so I haven’t had time to write. So let me start from the beginning. On Wednesday morning I got up at 5:10am EST and quickly got dressed, showered and said goodbye to my sisters. My dad drove me to the airport where during the car ride I received a call from United Airlines stating that my flight was cancelled! I panicked a little but it turned out fine as they put me on another flight where after I connected in Chicago and left for Shanghai. My flight to Shanghai was very good. After having lunch with a beautiful woman a young man entered a taxi in the center of downtown Shanghai. The taxi driver asked where to and the man told him so. The taxi driver, in a gentle and sincere voice, complimented the man's Chinese. The man did not respond to the compliment, seeking to be effected by neither praise nor contempt. He gets out his cell phone and makes a few needed calls. They drive through the city and arrive at the man's destination: an apartment complex where he has an audition. As he gets out the taxi to remove his excess baggage (an umbrella, jacket, laptop and backpack) he looks at the kindly taxi driver and tells him, "Your demeanor is very polite."
