W połowie drogi do bram parku przestała unosić nogi, na czoło wystąpiły jej poty i znów zaczęła wspominać coś o polskiej pomidorowej. Był to sygnał do odwrotu. Ledwo doczłapaliśmy do hotelu. Basia została zainstalowana, w założeniach do końca dnia, w łóżku, a ja zacząłem się zastanawiać co zrobić z tak niefortunnie rozpoczętym dniem. Do wyboru miałem dwie czynności. Czytanie książki i wyprawa do banku w celu wymiany $ na yuany. Wybrałem obie. Zanim jednak nastąpił dzisiejszy ranek, wczoraj popołudniem, mimo zmęczenia dobową podróżą pociągami i mimo siapiacego deszczu wciagnela nas kraina Avatara. Nie dziwie się i nie mam wątpliwości, że James Cameron ... read more

Aby przejachać z Dazhai do Zhangjiajie trzeba pokonać ponad 550 km. Można autobusem, można pociągiem, można samolotem. Aby przygotować się fizycznie i psychicznie do ewentualnej, przyszłorocznej podróży koleją z Pekinu do Lhasy w Tybecie postanowiliśmy pokonać ją koleją.

Today could be the fastest day ever. We woke up, ate, and drove to high speed train station, which was more like an airport. Then we took a 300km/h high speed train to Guilin. The train ride was surprisingly smooth. After the train ride we met our new tour guide who took us to Elephant Hill, the city emblem of Guilin. Then we ate dinner and went to an acrobatic show. There were many acrobatic acts and my favorite was the bicycle one, where one performer carried and balanced 9 others on his single bicycle. That ended our day and we went back to our hotel.... read more

Today I woke up in Sheraton, a 5 Star hotel which had an awesome American-style breakfast. Then we drove to the river and took a boat cruise of four lakes and two rivers. Then we drove to another attraction which had a lot of rocks and bridges, and we saw a glass bridge. I named one of the rocks “person looking at cell phone” because it looks like a person that was looking at a cell phone. Next we went to a Banyan tree park which had a very expansive tree that was over 1000 years old. Then we went on a ski lift/cable car which took us to the top of the mountain to see the birds’ eye view Guilin. Lastly we drove to a cave called Reed flute cave and we saw many awesome ... read more

Today is our last day in China. We woke up in our amazing five star hotel, and stuffed ourselves was delicious food from the breakfast buffet. Then we went back to our rooms and played video games for a little while, until it was time to go to lunch. I didn’t eat much because I stuffed too much food into my body at breakfast. Finally we hopped on the bus to go to the airplane and played a lot of video games and watched a lot of TV on the airplane then we arrived back at Singapore.... read more

Today was quite uneventful. We woke up and ate breakfast as normal, then we proceeded to drive to a new city Chang Sha. on the way there we stopped at some places that demonstrated some stuff, and we bought some black tea that I really liked. Then we went to eat Korean BBQ. I won’t say it was my favorite meal because it wasn’t Chinese, but it was VERY DELICIOUS. Then we kept driving for 5 hours and got to our hotel.... read more

Today was nearly as fun as yesterday, but not as much. We took a bus to a famous Yuan Jia Jie park, rode an automated train system and saw some wild monkeys. Then we hopped on the bus system of the park to take us to the world’s tallest and fastest elevator Bai Long el3vator. It was so fast we could feel ourselves going up at a high speed. After the fast ride, we could see the mountains where the movie Avatar was filmed. We also saw some interesting rock formations resembling people and paintbrushes. Finally we took the cable car down and ate at the Avatar restaurant. Then we took an hour long bus ride to a glass bridge where we messed around and ended up taking some cool photos. The last thing we did was ... read more

Today was by far the best day we ever had in this China trip. When we woke up, we went to another Chinese-style restaurant for breakfast and drove to tour the Tianmen Shan, or in English, heaven door mountain. It is very high, and near the peak there is a hole due to cave collapse. We rode a very bumpy, steep, and adrenaline-pumping bus ride up to the hole, but to get to the hole we had to ride the escalator or climb 999 steep steps, so my dad and I chose the latter and raced up the hill while my mom and the others rode the relaxing but nevertheless long escalator ride up. When we got to the top, we waited quite a long time for my mom and the others. Then we took pictures ... read more

I got way behind on this Blog, but I'm going to try to update it quickly. Maybe at some point I'll go back and talk about teaching at ZhouNan, but for now, I just want to post some photos from my Spring Festival trip that I went on with a few of my friends. Really quickly, Spring Festival is also known as Chinese New Year. It's also a good time to break between the semesters, so just like American students get about a month off from school for Christmas/Holidays, the same goes for Chinese students. The length of the holiday varies from school to school, and being a foreign teacher, I got a few extra weeks off due to testing and whatnot. I've often heard that Chinese New Year is the equivalent to the Christmas/Holiday season ... read more

Oh, the lady just wouldn't shut up! For half an hour! My four hour bus ride from Zhangjiajie to Fenghuang was annoyingly punctuated with selling spiels on the sound system that would drown out the music in my headphones. Not all of us can afford Bose noise-cancelling technology. Because I couldn't really understand everything that was being said - I can pick out words that I know but not enough to understand everything that is going on - I also wondered if this was a tour bus that simply sold out its spare seats to people simply wanting to get from A to B. The lady did seem to talk about what "we" would be doing and was providing a little bit of information about our destination. The rest of the time she was simply flogging ... read more
