Hi there!!! Ni hao ma? (How are you?) Sorry for beeing so crappy with keeping you updated on my China life lately... Hope you're good! Heard the sun has started showing its pretty face lateley :) That usually makes a nice change after a dark winter! Wo hen hao! (I'm very good!) Really happy to have started stuying Chinese! Started Thursday last week, in a beginners class of 20 people in different ages, from literally all over the world - Brazil, Panama, France, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Korea, USA, Thailand, Ukraine, Mexico... It's really cool to have such a mix, especially in a city like Guangzhou with so little Westerners - at least where I live. My place is about 30 minutes walk from Uni, which is perfect. Have also started working with my dad's ... read more

Today, we got the luck to have a free tour of Guangzhou thanks to our welcome university. We went to the temple of the Chen family’s ancestors I had already visited last Wednesday and we went to the Guangzhou museum which is in Yuexiu Park. As you already know how is the temple of the Chen Family’s ancestors, I will not tell you more about it. Let me just present you the Guangzhou museum… The pictures will explain you in a better way than mine what beautiful historical objects the museum encloses. ... read more

This welcome party was organized for the new MBA students and took place in the evening. All the staff of the International Program Office of Lingnan wore traditional clothes and sang karaoke. All Chinese people love karaoke! The emperor is in yellow and nobody should wear yellow color apart him. The “first lady” is in red. It is a man disguised in woman here but we can’t make the difference as far as he is very well disguise! Even the presenter sang! I should say here that they sing very well compare to me! I’m sure I will go to karaoke for fun soon… Finally, the evening finished at 10:00 PM and I met my buddy for the first time. Her name is Vivian and she is on my right on the picture. The girl on ... read more

Let me introduce you the team of the day! From the left to the right, you will see: Nicoletta (Italian), Mikael (Canadian), I, Vito (French), Rym and Gilles who I don’t need to introduce you anymore and Joan (French). We started our day by visiting the temple of the six Banians. This temple is dedicated to Hui Neng , the sixth founder of the Chen sect (Zen). It was built in 537. The site is very pleasant due to the numerous planted trees. The pagoda seems to have 9 levels seen from outside but it has 7 levels in reality. However, it is indicated 9 levels at the top of the pagoda. The roof has a bronze mast which weighs 5000 kg! It is a peaceful place where you can meet Bouddha and his monk disciples. ... read more

We discovered another asian sport. It is a foot game. The number of players is indifferent. This game consists in exchanging a sort of ball with feathers by feet. It is very funny and tiring when you don’t know how to play with it. So this is the new daily sport of our French team… only for a moment I think. Have a look on the South gate of the campus! And the Chinese policeman!  Haha picture! I’m a tourist! This Monday was the last day of the Chinese lantern celebration. Its duration is about one month. The Chinese lantern celebration is done since the Hanne dynasty (from -202 to 221) and it closes the New Year festivities. In the olden days, it was the occasion to drive back with lanterns the ancestors come to ... read more

Back home at 6 AM and woken up at 12 AM, I and Gilles wanted to go to a park. As Rym wanted to sleep more, we have both been there. On the road of Yuexiu park which is at 5 metro stations from Sun Yat-Sen University, we had the luck to find a manga exhibition. Youpi! We got inside for about 2.5 euros each and we discover another planet. They do what we call cosplay: people wear the costume of their favourite manga hero. So there were a cosplay parade and stands with manga drawers. Even if there were so many cute things to buy for cheap, I resisted and I only bought manga posters for my new apartment. Then, we have been to Macdonald’s and I ate a Chinese burger with spicy chicken, fries ... read more

For going to Beijing Lu street, we took the metro. The metro is very clean and safe. Guangzhou is a huge city where poverty has to face with globalization. Beijing Lu is a commercial street with many shops where you can find shoes for less than 3 euros and toys “à gogo”!  At night, it is very illuminated and shops open until 12:00 PM! In China, I don’t feel very much as a foreigner because Chinese people think that I am Chinese so when I am with my friends, they tend to speak to me first as if I should understand them. Only arrived and have already been at the night club! Well… night clubs are different from France and anywhere else. Yes, there is music, alcohol, podiums for dancing but almost nobody dance! After 12 hours of flight, I finally arrived at Baiyun airport at 6:30 AM. Even if I look fresh on the picture, I was exhausted. As the day was just starting, I could not have a rest at all knowing that in France it was 11:30 PM. Thus, note there are 7 hours of time lag between France and this part of China - Guangzhou. I travelled with two colleagues from my university: Rym and Gilles. We met an Algerian in the plane who became very friendly with us maybe because Rym is a good-looking Tunisian girl… He invited us to drink a coffee at the arrival and he left us very quickly due to his connection plane time. What a nice guy or should I say, thank you Rym! ;-) We took a taxi from ... read more

As I will study in the MBA program of Sun Yat-Sen University, I have been today with my new friends from HEC Montreal, EM Lyon and Negocia Paris to Lingnan College for choosing our courses. We put the morning to make our choice and then, we had lunch in a small restaurant in the street that we call a “buibui”… I don’t know why we call such restaurant like that in fact… but it is a “buibui”! We had a nice lunch and at 11 persons, we had to pay only about 5.5 euros! So 0.5 euro per person! Waou! That’s why, in brackets, I will eat in restaurant everyday . After eating, Williams - a French student from HEC Montreal who is in Guangzhou since a month - drove us to a fake market. This ... read more

Hi Everyone. Sorry, no pics on this one. Just a quick post to say I'm in Guangzhou. Toured the factory that makes the biodegradable cutlery yesterday. The factory was clean and safe, workers seemed comfortable enough. Saw the injection molding machines, how the process worked, and some samples of other items they make. I was treated very well by the Greenpak folks, escorting me around, and feeding me well. Later today I catch a night train to Guilin, and will get there in the morning sometime. Hopefully at the hostel there I will have better internet connection. This one, in an internet bar where most everyone is gaming, the conection is very slow... so I can't do any pics. Buy GZ is a big city, loaded with people, buildings, etc... nothing too photogenic here, except maybe ... read more
