And it’s that special time again, where I write about my life, and people read about it for some reason. And then I do a dance. So last time, I had a Kiliman-fail-o (play off of Kilimanjaro for anyone who isn’t a gamer/mountain enthusiast and doesn’t get that reference), went to An’Yang, and everyone looked at my tall black friend with out being super obvious or blatant about it. Ok, on to what you care about. July 18th: Tucker came back! So he came to chill for a little bit with me and Li Xuan, who’s one of the student directors at CET (also been helping me a ton with my visa problems – thank god), so we went out to a local restaurant, had some chuan’r (kebobs) had a (meaning 1) beer (cause school is ... read more

We caught a taxi to the Military Museum. Another way is to catch the train as there is a train station (Military Museum Station) right outside the museum. We visited the museum when there were free tickets, and the queue was long. The museum displayed a large collection of tanks, missiles, airplanes, bombs and weapons. This museum should not disappoint those who are interested in the modern Chinese war history. There was also an exhibition of statues of famous people in the Chinese History. We spent about 2 hours at the museum. ... read more

And I’m back once more this week to spam 6 people’s email boxes. If you want to get in on this spam-tastic fun, feel free to sign up to follow my blog (however you do that). Last time, things got a little up close in personal on the train, gorges were hiked, and bones with words were photographed. To continue: July 15th: So after the temple, we went Wenfengta, which is the home to An’Yang’s famous tower and some weird statues with hilarious faces. And that was basically it (probably why it got a 2 star historic sight rating). So me, Aja (the black girl from UNC), Mark (silent guy from UNC – dad, his lack of convo skills would drive you up and down a wall. Think Eidson when we started driving him to scouts), ... read more

Hello again everybody, so last time we had a fireside chat (and if your not by a fireside when reading these out loud every night to your loved ones, at least pull up a video of a fireplace on Youtube when you read these. FDR would have wanted it that way. Although he probably would have wanted me to have access to Youtube. Moot point.) I got the black lung (pretend I’m saying it as Ben Stiller does in Zoolander) balling like a boss, temporarily forgot how to be a boss for 24 hours, and then regained my status quo with a visit from Tucker. With out further ado: July 14th: So after a visit from Tucker, I quickly packed for my trip to An’Yang and hopped on the bus as we went to the train ... read more

GOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING (insert your city/town here for a more personal connection to this blog) Last time we had a triple threat of Temple of Heaven, embassy “fun”, and then the Summer Palace. And to top it off, I left a little foreshadowing of my hell week to come. And it was hell-tastic. A Fail-tacular if you will (aka: prepare for a lot of whining). Also, I have discovered that one of my fellow CET classmates had discovered my blog (Hello Christina!) Alright, lets get through this. July 11th: Many fruitless attempts to figure out my visa situation. However, my Gong Fu (Kung Fu) class is a nice stress release. I haven’t talked a ton about the class so let me go into a little bit of detail. The style is Wushu, and since that means nothing ... read more

And I'm back. Well, not mentally, but not like that ever happened in the first place. Last time I was on, I a) Had Korean BBQ for the first time (which is kinda surprising, since I have an aunt who is Korean), b) climbed some wall in China, I'm pretty sure it's not super famous or anything. Not like you can see it from space or anything* and c) left y'all on a super cliff hanger of what I did a few fridays ago! *Note: Can't actually see the Great Wall from space without a super telescope unless your name is Robby Hanckel And now for the thrilling conclusion of what happened last fridays ago! But first a word from our sponsors (aka: me) So yeah, I realized in the last blog I forgot to mention ... read more

2 blogs in 1 day!!!!!! *Rick Flair* WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! So last time (5 min ago for me) I blogged, I saw the Temple of Heaven, got sick like a boss, and got hit with some hilarious racism (it makes more sense if you don't think to hard about that last part). And now for the "thrilling" *cough* conclusion of what I did friday night: July 1st: Just kidding, I didn't get to talk about the acrobat show! So CET loaded up on some busses and headed to a Chinese acrobat show. The show was rather fun, and they had a bunch of different stuff from tight rope walking (which was probably the best I've seen anywhere), a bit of devil sticks, people that had these things that were two small weights at the ends of some long ... read more

3rd time is the charm (I hope). At this rate, there might be a 4th blog today. So sorry to the 4 subscribers who are getting spammed with emails. Last time, we saw (and by saw i mean read about) some flips, grooved out to karaoke, and got a melting pot of Sino-American culture. Well, let's keep this train rolling (which I just realized is kinda funny, seeing how we imported a ton of Chinese workers to build our railroads. God I am a Chinese history freak of nature. I should write a text book. "Robby Hanckel presents: A Sarcastic Review of Chinese History, a Fun Filled Romp Though the Largest History in the World without Chinese Censors - O God they Found Me.") (Sorry, went a little ADD there) July 3rd: So Matt (Marn, Grandpa, ... read more

Howdy y'all, So last we talked, I basically whined about my schedule for way too long. That's what happens when you write on a Wednesday and not the weekend, my bad. So now it's time to get back to the fun part, CHINA!!!!! O, and before I forget, pictures aren't going to be posted anytime soon do to a) The really bad internet and b) this blog's photo downloading system, which is fail-tastic. Moving forward! Friday, June 24th: So to make a long story short, I woke up at 4 am to continue studying for my first test at 8:30. Finished the test fairly quickly and got an 83 on it, which is good for the first test I think. Especially since I guessed on all the measure words (see previous blog for measure word description, ... read more

What? Two Blogs at ONCE?! Yep, procrastinating at it's best (just kidding, today was the easiest chapeer I'm going to have in at least 2 weeks) So last blog I met my Roomie, had many failures to communicate, and team bonding happened. So I never really finished sunday, but it was basically the beginning of this rinse and repeat week. Sunday: Transcribe a speach I wrote Thursday (didn't have to do the first Sunday) Preview the next day's Chapter which includes: -about 10 next new grammar structures -learn to read/write/say all the new vocab, which has ranged from 20 (which is a day I go to the middle of the street and dance for joy that I did something right to please god today) -70 (In which I go to the middle of the street, drop ... read more
