Saturday, 11th August 2018 At 8.30am, the sun was bright and sunny as 16 of us joined the cyclo tour to take in the architectural wonders of Central Phnom Penh. For the next 3 hours, the tour brought us to some of the most iconic buildings in the city including the Central Post Office, the China House as well as the quiet Railway Station. The guide was very informative as she shared with us stories of Cambodian history and political situation that corresponded to the period when the buildings were built. All in all, this was a very well-organised tour put together plus a very enjoyable cyclo ride around the city centre. Earlier in the morning, C and myself had woken up at 6.30am. We decided to hail a tuk tuk to the Olympic Stadium for ... read more

Friday, 10th August 2018 After breakfast at the hotel this morning, our tour bus came by to pick us up at 8.30am where we began our city tour of Phnom Penh. Barely 10 minutes into the journey, we had arrived at the first stopping point for the day, the imposing Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. For USD10, we were able to gain admission to the beautiful grounds dotted with healthy green lawns and immaculately kept gardens. The great thing about Phnom Penh is that the sights are within closed proximity to one another. There is no need to spend lots of time on the road before arriving at our destination. Within the grounds of the Silver Pagoda lies a mini Angkor Wat where we happily snapped loads of pictures of the beautiful model. It was ... read more

Thursday, 9th August 2018 More than 10 years ago, I was travelling by myself on this Jetstar flight 3K593 to meet my Cambodian friend, R at the Phnom Penh International Airport. Fast forward August 2018, there were more than 30 of us on this very same flight for our 4 Days 3 Nights retreat over the National Day long weekend. It was a last minute decision from my end to participate and I was really happy to be able to make it for this retreat. At the end of the 4 days, new friendships were forged and old friendships strengthened as we carved out our uniquely Phnom Penh experience. Our flight took off at 3+ in the afternoon from Changi International Airport. Flight time was about 95 minutes. As usual, I always find the leg room ... read more

Cambodia exceeded our expectations , from the warm friendly courteous people to the stifling heat we enjoyed this country , The city of Phnom Penh is constantly abuzz with the crazy traffic to people going about daily life . To get around the city by foot or Tuk tuk is very easy , food is cheap and there is an abundant of delicacies to sample , the killing fields and S21 prison are a must to visit , very harrowing but insightful , Royal Palace & Wat Phnom are also worth a visit .... read more

Four days in Siem Reap was very relaxing , July is a humid time of year to visit but the rain was kept to a minimum , The Angkor Museum in Siem Reap is worth a visit to gain insight to what you will see in Angkor Wat , Pub Street in the evening is abuzz with restaurants , food stalls ,markets and bars . Angkor Wat was a lot bigger than we realized and a couple of days is recommended to cover the main sights and temples , there are 2 circuits , the large and small circuits , the small is best covered by a Tuk Tuk and the larger by car , both require the majority of the day as there are numerous sites to see , there are a lot of stairs ... read more

When we first visited Cambodia, we knew that it is a poor country and we expected to see poverty and beggars, mostly child beggars. However, we have lived in Angolaand traveled through Africa so it shouldn't be worse or much different... Well, it was and we will explain why! If you are traveling to Cambodia, you should know that Cambodians use children to get money from tourists. There are mainly two ways of doing so: orphanages and child beggars. Cambodian Orphanages are kind of a tourist attraction...a very dark tourist attraction! yes, take a breath, people pay to go and see Orphanages in Cambodia. However, that's not even the worst part! The worst part is that in such a poor country, parents are giving away their child... read more

There is such beauty and unspoken magic roping around Siem Reap. Of course, Siem Reap is home to the temple complex, Angkor Wat; considered to be the most impressive monument in the world. Angkor Wat. It costs $37 for a day ticket to see Angkor Wat. A useful tip is to get your ticket after 5pm on the day before so you’re able to see it for sunset and have the full next day. We hired a tuk tuk for the day for $30 for both days which is expensive but our driver Peter was fantastic and gave us a full tour and it’s worth the money. Angkor Wat complex covers the size of a small city, littered with a variety of stunning religious sculptures and architecture. The structures date back to the 11th century (close ... read more

Asia » Cambodia » South » Sihanoukville May 12th 2018

We headed to the beaches of Sihanoukville and were faced with heavy thunderstorms for the majority of our stay in this little beach city. The city is made for sunny days so admittedly it ruined it a bit for us. However stayed at Monkey Republic where all the backpackers go for drinks around the pool and drinking games on the night which was great fun. Highly recommend this hostel. We loved to hostel itself but we were a little disappointed at the turn out of travellers as it’s off-peak season, therefore it’s much more quiet around this time of year. So, we decided to head to Otres beach (party beach) which was annoyingly dead quiet aswell. We eventually found a really cool hippy beach bar called Happy Mushrooms and relaxed with a few pitchers by the ... read more
