Edit Blog Post
Hello all!
Hope your in the best of health. Admitdly have taken some time since my last blog (poor effort on my part I know) and apologies for that. The reason is that I have been musing and I didn't want to rush the process.
Firstly, I would like to say that Miss Daisy Taranoskwa is evil, as is anybody else who dislikes my blog or even does the unthinkable and compare it in an unfavourable manner to that Dylan chaps' blog.
Secondly, I have recently become the somewhat bemused and confounded owner of a 8 mega pixal camera (as you hopefully can tell from the pictures). I am told by dylan that this is a rather good camera, but to be honest I still can't use it after several hours of playing. Anywho, getting to the point, I left the bloging so I could get a couple of photos and upload them. As 'Tom' said, I do need some photos.
Down to real business then. The last time I wrote was when I was in Vientiene. Since then I visted Pakse and Tadlo Falls as well as the island of Don Det. I've also crossed land
More Shinoukville beaches!
But crazily in the other direction! borders and gone into Cambodia, been to the capital and a backpackery beach town called Sinoukville on the Cambodian coast (see picture). I'm currently in Kampot which is close to an abandoned hill station with cool derlict buildings and stunning views.
I 'd like to note in particular Don Det. It is one of my favourite places and I think (funnily enough) that it was really cool (we stayed for 8 days). With a river to swim in 50m from ones bed and a more than favourable hamock to person ratio, who can complain? Pakse and Tadlo falls where also relaxing but mainly because they had little to do, where as they were acclipsed by Don Det which specialises in offering nothing to do (except of course read and swim) and therby cunningly wins the battle. Also the place gave us some good, fun friends (8 days is a long time in traveller world) one of whom I'm going to mention in an attempt to fool her into reading my other blogs to see if they get more features; American Erin a delightful American (you can kind of guess by my Nickname for her) who likes speach therapy and
Me!
Looking rather dashing if I do say so myself!
may well be in India by now.
Now, the bit that you have all been waiting for; the funny story! On our way down to Phom Phen from the Laos border we were forced to delay our journey and stop off in a place called Stun Treng. Because it was the bus companies fault we were kindly put up in the cheapest place in town for free. Sounds good until you realise that me and Dylan pulled out the shortest straw and had to stay in the room that was occupied. When I say occupied I mean they were occupied for just the afternoon and when everbody (I must admit I personally didn't take a look) saw them (through the peepholes - all good Cambodian dives have see through walls) it was noted that they were so poor that they couldn't afford clothes and had been forced to huddly together for warmth, so to speak! Reader you should note that we insisted quite passionatly after the room was vacated that new sheets be layed.
Finally, we've met some pretty interesting and unique people of late and I suppose you would like to know of them. For instance there
Nick the Aussie
Nick accompanied us for several days, traveling from Laos down to Phom Phe, where he shared a room with Dill. was Margret, a lovely lady who has a reading obsession (she once read 49 books in 7 days and managed to injure herself in the process - badly). We met her on the way down from Laos to Phom Pen (the capital) and as she had an amazing ability to keep and maintain any converstaion I particularly liked her. Secondly, I've met my first Cartographer. Richard, though not currently working, travels the world drawing maps for companies and dislikes Ordanecne Survey. Finally, just a few days ago on the sunny beaches (see pictures again) of Sounoukville I met my first Israeli (admitdly not very unique but he was my first). Although not nearly as interesting I thought I should mention Nick the Aussie, as he was with us for nearly a week and because I have a photo of him (after rereading that sentance I suppose I should re-emphasise that fact he was also very good company).
Apologies for the lack of content on this blog. It is lacking in content but then I thought I could fob you off with a few photos and maybe a quick story.
Oh, you should also know that since my last
A bus.
