this stupid website has messed up for the last time. while trying to submit my latest blog i found it nearly impossible to load the pictures I wanted to post. i immediately decided to move sites. so since you all have been following me I thought I should at least let you know where you can find my blogs. http://jakehcurtis.tumblr.com/ there should be a welcome note on that page to help you out with the layout, if need be. I am unsure if you can subscribe (aka follow) without creating a tumblr account but of course I could always post on here that there is a new blog up on my tumblr site. send me some feedback and we will get this figured out. thanks!... read more

November 3rd 2011 To say the little man is excited this morning is an understatement. It is the first morning he has been out of bed before me since August 1st!! We are finally onboard MS Fram for our trip to Antarctica. They have confiscated everyones alcohol as apparently it is now against Norwegian law to bring aboard alcohol and drink it. Some people have really been upset about it, but we'll just drink ours when we get back to BA. The ship is fantastic. The cabin isnt as dodgy as I thought it was going to be LOL. Single beds (whats new!), a TV that actually shows TV and movies as well as ship info, and a decent size bathroom. The expedition team look like they are going to be good fun. They all specialise ... read more

So...... its 16 days until we leave. Who's counting? :S Oh come on how often does one from our country get to travel overseas? Its an opportunity and thats how we're gonna treat it! Most things have been organised, just some random things to be purchased to fill up our suitcase (most things we will ACTUALLY need) and then we're off to Rome! Got our Italian passport today and it was funny because I said to G "Oh hey it looks like our other passport!" duhh we used the same photos for both *doink*. I'm thinking about how cold it's gonna be there as it is winter when we go there and thats one thing I'm not too excited about. Trust me I would definitely prefer to be able to rug up to stay warm over ... read more

Apologies again, this is a Nov 2011 post before leaving The Ice that I never got around to finishing/publishing- so now catching up! and almost there! -thanks for taking a look! Originaly scheduled to leave Mcmurdo Station in early Oct i was extended till early Nov/11 But I greatly enjoyed the transition from summer to winter to full summer again(no other seasons here!) the sun is up, the sun is down-thats it. The pics are mostly from that few weeks extra, and just some shots around 'town' -rather than of penguins and seals. Getting on that C-17 flight off the Ice, I didnt know if I would ever see Antarctica again, none of us ever really do despite our plans. Its still a very wild and unpredictable place-and life is too. So each time I leave ... read more

This morning we got a sleep in :). Then Tim, Priscilla and I caught a train to a place called the Bio Dome. It's a large glass dome that has 4 different environments ranging from a tropical area to an arctic area - including animals. After that we headed to Saint Catherine street which is a famous shopping stretch. When we were sick of shopping we headed back to the hotel! Tim decided to have a snooze while I walked to a nearby shopping centre where I bought a handbag, shoes, tops and belts....all that girly stuff :)... read more

Today was another bus day where we drove from Quebec City to Montreal! Once we got in to the city we went for a bit of a driving tour and also walked up to a lookout to take millions of photos! After we settled in to our hotel we all went out to tea as a group and then headed off on a walking Ghost tour! Our tour guide Donovan was great but it wasn't really a ghost tour - it was more just a history tour - it was interesting though!!!!... read more

This morning we left early to head to Canada! We passed through New Hampshire and then stopped at a Walmart in Maine for lunch. I'm pretty sure Walmart is my new favourite store!!!! We had a short stop at the border to go through customs and get our passports stamped and then we headed on to Quebec City. We had a quick drive through old Quebec City and then headed to our hotel. That night we went to a place called the Sugar Shack for tea! It was a restaurant attached to a place where they make maple sugar products. They also had an awesome accordion player!!!... read more

First thing this morning we headed of on a tour of Harvard University. Our tour guide was great and it was really interesting hearing the history of the school and it's former pupils. I'm pretty sure everyone on the tour bought something from the Harvard store. I ended up with two sweatshirts and Tim got a jacket and a hat. After leaving Harvard Tim and I met up with one of my postcrossing friends Laura who took us out to Salem. We had the best afternoon exploring the shops and we also did tours of the Witches Dungeon Museum and the House of Seven Gables. I think meeting Laura has been a highlight for me. ... read more

The next morning we had an early morning meet up with our next tour group! It was pretty much straight on to the bus and heading out! We are really lucky as our tour isn't full so there is lots of spare seats to spread out on. Our first stop was in New Haven, Connecticut - home of Yale! It was just a quick stop to use the restroom and grab a drink or some food. We stopped in Providence, Rhode Island for lunch. We headed to a place called Luxe's where you can design your own burger/wrap! The food was incredible!!!! After a few more hours on the bus we reached Boston and checked in to our hotel. We headed to a place called Dick's Last Resort for dinner and it was hilarious. Basically the ... read more
