Again today I have no pictures to share, but I am hopeful for tomorrow!This morning we had an early start because we did a lot of riding in the bus today. We drove out of Tunis toward the west. First stop was Testour, a town where we walked up and down the main street which was largely taken up with a very busy market. Uncle Jim pointed out that it is Friday, the Muslim holy day, so few people are working and everyone is free to socialize, shop, and be out on the street. The locals mostly ignored us. Our group certainly stood out because of our ethnicity and clothing...and cameras. I took a photo of people harvesting orange blossoms for use in fragrances and cooking. Our final trip to the North of Tunisia! We rented a car and ventured back to Tabarka. It was strange to see that all of the storks we have seen on previous visits have flown their nests and the rooftops were empty. Once again we stayed at Les Mimosas where half of the town seemed to gather around the pool for a crafty cigarette or a coffee during Ramadan! There had been rumours that some Islamists had tried to burn the hotel down because of this but we saw no evidence other than a burnt patch in the lower gardens. Summer is here at long last! We rented a car and headed out to Tabarka on the North coast close to the Algerian border. It was only for a weekend but we had a great time. Driving through Northern Tunisia you certainly get a feel for how rural most of the country is. We had been here 15 months before, but then the fields were green. Now they are brown and the roads are slower because of the amount of hay on the move! We stopped off at one of our favourite spots. The deserted railway station at Sedjenane (See the last blog from there!) is no longer deserted as someone seems to be living there now!
