Last year we already packed the suitcases twice the weekend before our trip. This time round I still went shopping for clothes this morning. The excitement is brewing, much like the beer at the Pilzen brewery that we are going to visit on the way to Brno. Can't wait to try out my new camera, especially with the architecre in Prague.... read more

Geo: -33.7333, 18.9667Today I was picked up at 8.30 for a wine tour with a small group. The tour went to a variety of vineyards from the region of Stellenbosch and Paarl, just northeast of Cape Town. There were three different places for wine tasting, which included both red and whites, as well as a couple desert wines.Im not huge on reds, but a couple of them were drinkable enough to suggest that more mature tastebuds would appreciate them. The cheese tasting was equally as awesome... how I love cheeses. We stopped at the historic town of Stellenbosch to walk about at lunch. Its a beautiful little town, where one of Cape Towns best universities is located. We had a nice lunch at a vineyard here. It was really beautiful, a light steak with wine, in the sunshine ... read more

Today we went wine tasting. The wine was amazing and the company was great. The wine tour included entrance to 2 wineries with wines from 5 different wineries and transportation to and from the house. To start the morning we all piled into a nice "party bus" ready for our day of debauchery. When we arrived at the first winery our tour guide gave us some good tips about wine tasting and how to be a wine connissieur. His tutorial was pretty awesome and I learned a lot. At the first winery we were to try 6 wines and try multiple cheeses made from goat milk and cow milk. I ended up trying about 9 wines and learned that a sweet raisin wine tastes divine with bleu cheese!!! After the first winery we stopped by cheeetah ... read more

Today I’d booked myself a wine tour, one of the things I really wanted to do while in this part of the country. There was some initial confusion about getting me on the tour that had me stressed for a bit, but it got sorted, I joined the group and it was fantastic. The first winery, in the Paarl region, was Fairview Estates. I took a look at the distillery, saw vats holding 50,000 litres of wine. But of course the feature is the tasting. Tried seven different wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Pinotage Viognier. They also had about a dozen different types of cheese (wow were they good!!), plus spreads, vinagrettes and bread. It was awesome. And it’s helped me clarify what wines I like. I’ve always known the tastes, ... read more

Today we had planned to climb Table Mountain in Cape Town but we were tired from our long weekend. Instead we went to a shiraz festival in Paarl. The theme was from Persia to Paarl so everything was like Arabian-nights sort of theme. I really liked the pinotage shiraz. Then we went to a lion reserve. This place rescued lions and kept the males and females separate to discourage breeding. They are vehemently against game reserves that breed lions in capitivity for tourists to play with or for tourists to shoot. ... read more
