Cape Town
We're Here!!!! Ok so here we are on our very last day of travelling!!!!!! Feels pretty weird but since we are nursing a pretty bad hangover (more about that later!) we are numb to it!!!! Denial seems to be working pretty well too!!!!!
So.......we landed in Johannesburg and then after a minor money crisis we bought our flight to Cape Town. Having not much money at all we spent the first few days "getting our bearings" as we called it........just our excuse for not being able to afford a safari!!!! But amazingly, as always, even though we had no money we still decided to get very dunk! And drunk we got!!! It wasn't until the next day when we went into an internet cafe and the lady laughed in our faces that we realised how very drunk that we had been! Allegedly we had visited there in the small hours of the morning and I had fallen asleep on Paul's lap! (Smooth!!) Paul had then apparently been repeatedly smacking me round the head to get some sort of response from me! I asked if she had seen my shoes as somehow I had lost them (who loses their shoes when they go
WallaWalla
Small French Cheeses out????!!!!) and she said that I had refused point blank to wear them!!!!! Hmmmmmmmmm!!! Fortunately I have no recollection of such shenanigans so I have decided that it just didn't happen!!!! Denial is a wonderful thing!
So having made our presence known and spent the little money we had, we then endured another couple of days "getting our bearings" around town! We headed to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (yes I do mean Alfred.....not Albert!) and enjoyed some of the African music that was going on around us. To help deal with our hangover we decided to do the first thing that one would expect to do when they had just arrived in Africa.........go to the cinema!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! Twas the most awful film that may ever have been made! Do not see "A Prairie Home...thingy" (so bad that we've actually forgotten what it's called!!!!) I made Paul sit and watch it right to the end though!
We did manage to get to the City Gardens and the Castle...although couldn't afford to go in...but the outside was lovely!!! The entrance was a mere 20 rand (about 1 pound 10!) so instead we went for a bottle of wine
Dun-Daa Dun-Daa
That was me trying to do the Jaws thang!~!~ for 60 rand!!!! Where's the sense??!!!!!! We ended up drunk again and spent more non-existant money on finding all the best clubs and experiencing Cape Town nightlife.
The next day we took on Table Mountain! The strange flat topped mountain which is the backdrop to Cape Town. My Sweet Lord!!!!!!!! We were in agony for a couple of days after all our exertions..and then we discovered that Plateklip Gorge (where we climbed) was infact the easiest trail! Damn it!!! Being the most well equipped travellers known to man we both decided to climb in flipflops!! We managed to overtake many an organised hiker equipped with back pack, walking stick, hiking boots and compass in our poor foot attire! Perhaps the most entertaining part of it all were the comments from other walkers......"You can't climb in those!" "You're crazy to walk up the mountain in those!" "Shoes....no good yah!!!!" etc however receiving these comments at the base of the mountain when we had already climbed up and then back down again seemed redundant! The views, of course, were incredible but you can see that from the photos! We did manage to go slightly insane during the climb but I can
Just Keep Climbing!!
Note the 'normal' footwear!! inform you now that we have discovered the meaning of eggs!!! Eggs give you energy which is strange since you can get Eggs-austed, however hens lay eggs and they give you Hen-ergy!!! That is the reason!!!!! Also in relation to what came first, chicken or egg......neither.....it was the hen!!!
The following day we headed for Camps Bay seen as there was a miniscule amount of sun and heat! Being the English travellers that we are we stripped and sunbathed even though we were dealing with goosebumps most of the day!!!! Crazy English!!!
Our last Saturday of travelling was spent on a wine tour around the Cape Town Vineyards. They do not use the spitoon here!!!!!!! So neither did we and managed to get oursleves quite inebriated. The first tastes we had involved picking out flavours while with the last wines we were actually trying to work out if it was red or white!!!!!!! The final Saturday night was a riot!!! There was to be an 80s themed night at a local bar and the guy from our hostel told us that everyone really gets into the spirit of things so me and Paul spent time making costumes (knew
the tutu would come in handy!!).....only to discover we were the ONLY people in fancy dress there!! Doh!!! Oh well..we've never been too bothered about making an arse of ourselves, and there was a free drink in it for our efforts! After a raucous evening of drinking we headed for some late night munchies and while the chef's back was turned we kept scoffing as many falafels as we could!! Criminals!!! Haha!
Which brings us to today....our third hangover!!!!!! Nothing left to do but reminise and pack......aaaaggggghhhhh!!!! We've decided to try some local food tonight so anyone for Ostrich???? Or Crocodile???? Oh we are so daring!!! We leave for Jo'Burg in the morning and then catch the ever dreaded flight home. Oh well...upshot is that we get to see you guys very very sooooooooooooon!! yay!!!! Partytime!
So just to reiterate.......October the 6th, 7pm at the Hampton......Dressed as me or Paul!!! (Glad to hear some of you have already organised costumes!!!!! Slightly concerned about the guys who have opted to come as me but hey whatever!!!)
See you really soon xxxxxxx
