Another little side trip in South Africa. This time we stay 5 nights in Pretoria and two days around Sun City. A holiday around Pretoria or Joburg is not on many people list. But here it is...I'm slowly making my way to play the top 100 rated golf courses in the country. Prior to this week, I was at 71. Today I am at 76. The simple reality is...beside two of them in Parys, all the 22 remaining are in Gauteng! So I technically need at least 3 more weeks of "holidays" around the area to achieve what not many people did in the country...play all the courses ranked in the latest chart of the top 100 by Golf Digest in 2018! Good chance I could be one of the few even maybe the first foreigner ... read more

Valley of the Waves was a great place it had a huge wave pool. We're avery hour a bunch of huge waves hit. When we got there a wave has coming so I ran in to the water to catch it. I was in the water playing in the waves for another hour Dad came in and we played tag in the water. Then we we're getting cold so we got out. Before we left Johannesburg Chris was telling us that we had to go on the Temple of Courage the biggest slide there. So I warmed up on the other smaller slides like the Mamba, Tarantula and Viper. Mamba and Viper are tube slides, Tarantula is a body slide. There was another one that was broken called the scorpion. My favourite slide was the Viper ... read more

In the morning, very early morning, Dad and I went on the elephant ride. Me and Dad had to get up really early to make it to the safari. We thought we were going to miss it because it took a long time for the bus to show up. But the group was waiting for us so it was ok. We were in a open truck on the way there we saw some antelope, Kudu and elephant. We had a man film us along the way through out the tour/ride. We were served coffee, tea and muffins upon arrival. The guide explained to us how to act with the elephants and told us not to be afraid of them. Me and Dad got on first. We were the Guinea pigs. The elephants had saddles because there ... read more

A 5 hour drive to Sun City. Wasn't that fun! The one stop was really nice. It was a dam that was huge, it had all the cutes open because we had just got a big thunder storm. Arlene's family said it was the most open they had ever seen. Water was rushing down as fast as lightning. We stopped for cool drinks and snacks at a gas station. We got to Sun City about lunch time. It took took them one hour to make our rooms. I got a grilled chicken salad that was good. We saw the little zoo. The zoo had screaming monkeys. One that looked extremely stressed and needed out of its cage and in to the wild. By the time our rooms were ready I was ready to head to the ... read more

Today for the first time we went to Sun City. What a bizarre and mixed experience. When we were children we never visited because my parents called it Sin City instead of Sun City. The main area is typical of the aged casino look. Nothing inspiring here. But at least I managed to find a cute bag for my daughter. The highlight was when Karen & I dropped into the health spa and managed to get in for a massage. It is beautiful with large leather seats to wait in and water and apple juice on tap. The views across the valley are peaceful.... read more

04 April 2010, I traveled to Sun City with family and friends Deep in the rugged bushveld, in the heart of an ancient volcano, lies the world's most unique resort. Sun City Sun City has been on my bucket list for years. It has always looked like a magical destination and it did not disappoint. We started our week long trip and not once have I regret choosing this destination. I could have sown that I was in heaven Sun City Resort has a unique heartbeat and an African rhythm of its own and is unlike any other Resort destination in the world. From my experience this is pure fantasy and your every desire is met. Its glamorous casinos, gourmet restaurants, extensive sports facilities and star studded spectaculars. There is Disneyland, there is Dubai and Las Vegas....you like them or you don't like them, and there is also Sun City. The original concept of Sun City was created 25 years ago on the same concept of Las vegas...aka Casinos! At the time, capital cities in South Africa could not get their owns casinos. So Sun City came out of the plans, 2 hours drive from Joburg, in the middle of nowhere not that far away from the Botswana border. To make people feel better, they did not only built casinos, the added two golf courses. 15 years ago, to complement the all thing came a Palace, the place is called the Palace of the Lost City. You are in fantasy, disneyesque or other would say bad taste extravaganza. We stay there, but imagine people ... read more

The next day, we were to take the same van back to JNB. We waited and it did not show. We still waited and it did not arrive. My friend called the travel agent who said they would get things straightened out. Finally, the driver was there and we were pressed for time. He knew we had to hurry and he floored that vehicle! We were waiting so long that we never did get anything to eat. We had a flight from JNB to Nelspruit(NLP) that afternoon and it was going to be close! Well, we did not make it. It was also the last flight of the day. I was not too worried, I just thought we could get some rest and try again the next day. At least we could finally get some FOOD! ... read more
