Most photos are from my school in Kameelpoort (Molapoamogale) which is a small village. Sele School has 190 students in Gr 7-12. George's and Eva's schools are Gr 7-9 and much bigger. Eva's is in a densely populated region around our shopping village. The difference in size, location, and the personality of the principal makes our school situations different in some ways. But then they all face the same difficulties. For now, just take a look at photos and captions.

For the most part, South African learners are comfortable speaking in front of others. Very expressive, some are very funny.

Hardworking teacher, assistant principal. We were born in the same month and same year...and get lots of ribbing about that.

In mid-2013 interviews were held for this position. Mapule, a young woman from Limpopo province, had been volunteering in this job for at least two years. She rented a room Mon-Fri in our village and she has a daughter at home in Limpopo. Five months later, Bongani was hired, and he showed up for work....Mapule had not even been told this. It was a very uncomfortable situation. We will have a farewell to thank her sometime next year, but for now we are sad she had to leave this way. Bongani is a hard worker with lots of gifts for this job, and I'm glad to have him.

She teaches very many classes, Life Orientation, Technology, Arts and Culture, English. (English is taught every day, but others are 3 or 4 times out of 6 days, so that means lots of different preps for these classes) She has a great rapport with learners.

People in the village take this job for six months at a time it seems.
