12.4. montag - der letzte abend vom kurs wir haben den landrover einmal mehr in die 150 km entfernte garage gebracht, fuhren zurück, haben beir outpost lodge ein anderes fahrzeug abgeholt, was wir für die zeit benutzen konnten, und fuhren zurück ins camp. Dort wurde uns gesagt, dass wir mit den studenten auf die letzte ausfahrt gehen müssen... ich war fix und fertig von der über 300km fahrt in einem offenen fahrzeug! Aber oli und ich gingen trotzdem (hatten ja keine andere wahl) und wir fuhren zum limpopo aussichtspunkt welcher 20 minuten vom camp entfernt ist. Dort genossen wir die friedliche stimmung und den sonnenuntergang mit den studenten.
13.4. dienstag - der letzte abend im makuleke camp oli und mir wurde mitgeteilt, dass wir das camp erst am Mittwoch verlassen werden
bevor der student christoff - der ich-kann-alles-reparieren-mann - das camp verliess, hab ich ihn mir geschnappt und ging mit ihm zu meinem auto (ich konnte es nicht starten und etwas mit der kupplung war nicht ok) um zu checken, was sache ist. Und es war unglaublich... er reparierte mein auto, somit konnte ich das camp verlassen! Danke viel mals!
Nachden oli die studenten um 7 uhr morgens zum auto
parkplatz gebracht hat (welcher 40 minuten entfernt ist), konnte ich ein letztes mal nach tshikondweni gehen und den müll entsorgen. Kurz bevor 2 war ich zurück und habe dale (den 2. Instruktor) auf der „middle road“ strasse gekreuzt als er das camp verliess. Als ich zurück war, hatte oli auch bereits gepackt und verliess kurz später das camp. Somit musste ich das ganze zeugs selber entladen plus den anhänger und das auto waschen. Nach 4 uhr war ich fertig mit allem und da war nicht mehr genug zeit um nach nelspruit zu fahren bevor es dunkel wurde. Somit entschied ich am nächsten morgen das camp u verlassen...
Und weil ich immer noch im camp war, musste ich auch noch die studenten um 5 uhr vom auto parking von ihrem freien tag abholen.
Wir assen das abendessen, sassen danach noch ne weile beim feuerplatz. Hörten die löwen unweit vom camp entfernt... und das brüllen kam immer näher, bis ich entschied dass es vielleicht nicht das schlauste ist im dunkeln zu sitzen und uns zu unterhalten. Somit gingen alle richtung zelt und um 9 uhr waren fast alle im bett. Ein komischer letzter abend... aber wenigstens chris kam noch zu meinem zelt
und wir haben uns auf meiner veranda unterhalten. Danke chris, dass du während diesem monat in camp mir zugehört hast, wenn ich mich während schwierigen tagen beschwerte und dass du mich aufgestellt hast wenn ich schlechte laune hatte. Ich habe das sehr geschätzt !
14.4. mittwoch - verlassen des makuleke camps ich war noch nie gut im auf wieder sehen sagen...
ich bin das erste mal ohne kater oder übermüdet erwacht, wenn ich ein ecotraining camp verlassen musste! Die studenten haben mir beim auto packen geholfen und nach dem frühstück verliess ich das camp... und ich muss gestehen, dass ich eine kleine träne im auge hatte, als ich auf die „middle road* strasse einbog.
Ich bin mir nicht sicher ob ich glücklich war, dass ich den instruktor verlassen konnte, nachdem er mich wie ein kleines kind behandelt hatte oder ob es war weil ich die leute verliess mit welchen ich einen intensiven monat verbracht hatte. Oder vielleicht war es auch weil es mir bewusst wurde, dass ich nie mehr an diesen magischen ort zurückkehren werde...
danke viel mals an alle studenten, welche diesen trails guide kurs besucht haben. ich hoffe wir bleiben in kontakt!

verliess das camp und fuhr nach nelspruit. 6,5 stunden später kam ich in jen & dees haus an und war völlig erschöpft!
15.4. Donnerstag ich habe auf dem sofa geschlafen (wo ich auch die nächsten 2 wochen schlafen werde) und habe mich am morgen viel besser gefühlt, da ich lange geschlafen habe. Speziell weil ich für nix und niemanden aufstehen musste... ich habe meine sachen aus dem auto ausgepackt und habe bemerkt, dass ich die ratten oder mäuse welche sich in makuleke in meinem auto ein neues zuhause gemacht haben - mit nach nelspruit ganommen habe. Plus ein frosch... muss diese ratten/mäuse aus meinem auto los werden. Muss wohl ne falle kaufen bevor sie sich an den kabel im auto hermachen! Bisher haben sie nur ein nest gemacht und überall spuren hinterlassen - in form von kleinen, ovalen, schwarzen teilchen.
Später habe ich meinen travelblog aktualisiert und habe mit freunden gechattet - es war super nach nahezu 2 monaten wo ich fast keine möglichkeit hatte zu chatten 😊
Ich habe auch meine emails angeschaut und habe meinen lebenslauf aktualisiert.
16.4. Freitag ging um 9 uhr richtung berg-en-dal im krüger n.p. um nadine brotschi und rubi zu treffen. Sie

the picture was taken south of skukuzahatten dort ein kleines chalet gemietet mit 3 betten, somit konnte ich dort übernachten. Wir gingen auf ne 2 stündige Nachmittagsfahrt und am abend haben wir gegrillt. Haben infos ausgetauscht, getratscht und hatten einen entspannten abend 😊
17.4. Samstag um 6 uhr am morgen verliessen wir alle berg-en-dal. Sie fuhren richtung rocktail bay an der küste und ich fuhr richtung nelspruit. Stoppte in pretoriouskop camp um mich mit sarah nurse zu treffen (eine ehemalige einjahresstudentin)
als ich in nelspruit war gingen jen&dee und ich ins jock & java um etwas zu trinken. Nach dem 2. Bierchen gingen wir nach hause und einige ihrer freunde kamen auch mit. Um 10 uhr kamen sie dann auf die idee, wieder in den ausgang zu gehen - ich habe entschieden zu hause zu bleiben. Ich hatte mich am nächsten Mittag mit dale dem instruktor verabredet gehabt und wollte dort nicht übermüdet erscheinen. Denn ich wusste, dass der abend sehr sehr lang werden würde mit all den freunden von den 2 mädels...
18.4. Sonntag Mittagessen mit dale - er ist ein guter freund geworden, nachdem wir uns kurz im februar 2008 im karongwe camp getroffen hatten. Danke viel mals, dass du die teilweise
ungemütliche zeit in makuleke angenehm gemacht hast. Danke für all die gespräche und mentalen support den du mir gegeben hast!
19.4. Montag habe das visum für mosamik organisiert, welches mich 350 rand gekostet hat. Wollte ein bank konto eröffnen, aber meine unterlagen waren älter als 3 monate und somit konnt ich heute kein konto eröffnen.
20.4. Dienstag habe mich mit barend du toit in der riverside mall getroffen. Er ist ein singita training guide - einer der 8 die die möglichkeit erhielten dort ausgebiltet zu werden... (ich war dort zum interview letzten september) war interessant zu hören wie es dort abläuft. War nett mit ihm zu quatschen, auc wenn ich ihn nie zuvor getroffen habe.
Danach ging ich einkauffen, da ich bereits in einem einkaufszenter war... habe mir 4 bücher gekauft. Eines über einheimischen pflanzen, eines mit giftigen pflanzen, ein weiteres vogelbuch (glaube das ist das 7. !) und „a game ranger in a backpack“ von magan, einer unserer instruktoren welche wir im jahreskurs hatten.
Zu hause blätterte ich mich durch die bücher... bis in den späten abend !
21.4. Mittwoch habe gelernt, mein logbuch aktualisiert und ging ne plastik box kaufen für meine bücher, weil die
ratten von makuleke haben begonnen meine kartonbox anzuknabbern!
Ging mit jen & dee zur polizei, um die papiere fürs bankkonto zu stempeln. Es war unglaublich: der polizist hat nicht mal die papiere geprüft oder einer unserer pässe. Dee hat ihn angelacht und alles lief wie geschmiert...
22.4 Donnerstag bin spät aufgestanden, da dee nachtschicht hatte und noch auf arbeit war und jeniffer ging gestern zu ihren eltern übernachten... somit war am morgen niemand zu hause.
Habe einige kleine achen erledigt, habe frühstück gegessen und dan kam dee von der arbeit zurück.
23.4. Freitag ging neue kopfhörer, ne sonnenbrille und einige andere sachen einkaufen welche ich in mosambik gebrauchen werde...und wollte ein bankkonto eröffnen, aber vergass den pass zu hause!
24.4. samstag dale - das geburtstagskind - hat mich um 7.30 uhr mit seinem neuen landrover abgeholt und wir fuhren nach mankele (http://www.mankele.com) um fahrrad zu fahren!
Dort gibt es verschiedene routen und wir haben uns für die 20 km route entschieden. Das hat uns einige stunden in anspruch genommen, es war ne wunderbare tour! Viel single trail und einige technische passagen mit vielen bäumen rechts und links vom pfad 😊 einige downhills und einige rampen waren in
den 20km eingebaut... ich habe es genossen - auch wenn ich nicht mehr fahrrad-fit bin. War fast 1,5 jahre nicht mehr auf dem bike !
Habe ein typ, welcher uns überholt hat, mit einem DT SWISS dämpfer gesehen!
Ich werde dort wieder hin fahren - ein super ort um mountain bike zu fahren!
Am abend gingen wir 3 mädels ins jock & java wo wir einen der manager der nickelmine getroffen haben - dee's vorgesetzter. Wir plauderten ein weilchen mit ihm und seiner frau und der abend wurde später als erwartet.
25.4. Sonntag ging am Mittag mit dale, jeniffer aus irland (welche ich in makuleke als studentin getroffen habe), jen & dee ins jock & java essen. War ne interessant-lustige kombination von leuten...
danach gingen jen & dee nach barberton um einige tage ihre eltern zu besuchen - was hiess, dass ich alleine in ihrer wohnung war. War komisch in ihrer wohnung zu sein und sie sind nicht dort. Südafrikanische gastfreundschaft! Stell dir das in der schweiz vor...
den Nachmittag verbrachte ich mit job suchen, chatten, kontostände überprüfen, emails schreiben und diesen bolg zu aktualisieren.
Scheiss wetter - wie im herbst in der schweiz. Neblig, gelegentlicher nieselregen und klat...
schlägt mir auf meine moral!
26.4. Montag blieb liegen bis 8.30... hatte schlechte laune und somit überhaupt kein grund aufzustehen. Habe schlussendlich facebook mit neuen bildern aktualisiert und habe mein fahrrad in den service gebracht. Jetzt sollte ich ein bankkonto eröffnen gehen... oder einmal mehr versuchen ob es klappt.
Und wie vermutet konnte ich kein konto eröffnen. Dieses mal hatte ich all die papiere mit mir, aber jetzt haben sie mir gesagt, dass ich ohn arbeitsvisum kein konto eröffnen kann!
Das hätten sie mir zuvor sagen können, dann hätte ich nicht meine zeit vergeudet mit all dem papierkram! Unglaublicher hauffen von deppen...
Am abend habe ich mit indi gechattet (eine studentin, welche ich auch in makuleke getroffen habe) welche kenianerin ist. Habe ihr mein lebenslauf gesendet. Wie cool wäre es in kenya zu arbeiten ! aber ich habe gar keine erwartungen... dann werde ich auch nicht enttäuscht!
Heute habe ich nichts anderes gegessen als junk food... und morgen werde ich es wieder bereuen! Einer dieser tage wo ich meine schlechte laune mit junk food kompensiere. Einer dieser tage wo ich nicht wirklich schätze, dass ich in südafrika bin. Das meine guten freunde nicht hier sind und niemand kann mich
wirklich verstehen...
27.4. Dienstag bin spät aufgestanden - einmal mehr...
habe nicht viel emacht aussert shampoo, duschmittel usw für meine 2 monate in mosambik einkaufen.habe meine kisten und taschen auferäumt - somit bin ich bereit!
Habe mein auto geputzt, weil die ratten immer noch darin leben... und habe eine falle gekauft um dies zu beenden! Hoffe sie mit etwas schweizer schokolade zu ködern 😊
Das erste was in die falle ging war... welch überraschung... meine finger! Autsch, das schmerzte!
Am abend habe ich einmel mehr mit leuten aus de ganzen welt gechattet und kriegte eine komische laune weil ich mich alleine gefühlt habe in einem fremden land. Werde etwas paranoid, dass ich keinen job finden werde - aber vielleicht ist es auch nur weil mein schweizer sein durch schlägt und ich gerne meine zukunft organisieren möchte und es mir momentan nicht gelingt...
28.4. Mittwoch stand um 8 uhr auf und habe frühstück gegessen - habe papierkram erledigt und habe das mittlerweile wieder schöne wetter genossen. Nach 3 tagen schlechtem wetter ist es heute wieder schön und sonnig !
am Nachmittag fuhr ich nach belfast um dale abzuholen und wir fuhren die 130km zurück nach white river. Dort -
er wohnt momentan mit einem freund - hat er mich zum grillen eingeladen und ein weiterer freund kam vorbei und sie grillten krevetten und hummer aus mosambik!
Seine 2 freunde sind beide ex-küchenchefs - und daher war das abendessen sehr fein 😊
Jetzt weiss ich jedenfalls wie man krevetten putzt und wie man eine delikate sauce dazu macht... (weil ich dale und clinton zugeschaut habe wie sei die dinger geputzt haben... ich hatte ein kühles bierchen und habe das ganze überwacht 😊)
29.4. Donnerstag stand um 8 uhr auf, habe bewerbungen geschrieben, habe diese an 2 orte versendet...
habe mein fahrrad abgeholt, welches ich in den service brachte. Als ich es ins auto laden wollte, bemerkte ich dass der schnellspanner gebrochen ist (war nicht kaputt als ich das bike brachte) also gini ich zurück in den shop und beschwerte mich. Sie haben ohne grosses traraa mir mitgeteil, dass sie den ersetzen werden. Sie müssen das teil in joburg bestellen und haben mir einen normalen schnellspenner gegeben für die zeit bis der im shop sein wird. Super service 😊
das beste war: ich habe 24,5 euros für den service bezahlt. Sie haben ein kabel ersetz, haben die räder wieder rund
gemacht (welche im flugzeug wohl einen leichten seitenschlag kriegten) und haben einen generellen service gemacht. Das würde in der schweiz wohl einiges mehr kosten...
zu hause habe ich den travel blog mit diesen worten aktualisiert und habe die bilder angehängt.
Morgen werde ich von nelspruit zum orpen gate und dann in den krüger n.p. nach letaba fahren. Von dort die grenze nach mosambik überqueren.
Am Sonntag werde ich bereits gäste in letaba abholen - somit die grenze nach südafrika ein erstes mal während dem arbeiten überqueren 😊
Ich freue mich extrem endlich mit arbeiten zu beginnen. Endlich als trails guide zu arbeiten - ein traum geht in erfüllung...

12.4. monday - officially the last evening of the course
we dropped off once more the landrover 150km away at the garage, drove back, fetched at outpost an other vehicle and went back to camp. There we were told to leave immediately with the students for the last drive... was so not ready to drive any more! But me and oli left for this drive and went just to the limpopo lookout 20 minutes drive away from camp and enjoyed a relaxed time there with the students.
13.4. thuesday - my last evening in makuleke camp
oli and myself were told that we only leave on wednesday
before the student christoff - the handy man - left the camp i went with him to my car (it didn't start the day before and there was something wrong with the clutch) that he can have a look at it... and it was unbelievable... he fixed it that i could leave camp 😊 thanks a lot for that !!!
i went a last time to the rubbish run to tshikondeni after oli dropped off the students at the parking spot in the early morning. I was back shortly before 2 and i just passed dale on middle road as he was leaving camp. And when i got to camp oli was on the way to leave as well...
so i had to offload by myself and clean the trailer and the car as well. It was after 4 o'clock when i was done with it and obviously there was not enough time to get back to nelspruit before it got dark. Therefore i decided to leave early next morning...
and because i was still there i had to pick up the students (which had the day off) at 5 from the parking as well.
Anyway - we had dinner and afterwards we were sitting a little while at the fire place. we heard the lions not too far away from camp... and the roaring came closer and closer until i decided that it is probably not the smartest to sit arround in darkness and chat. therfore nearly everyone went to their tents.
Wierd last evening for me... but at least chris came to my
veranda and we had a last cigaret and a chat together.
Thanks chris to spend all this time during the last month listening to my moaning and cheering me up when i was not i a good mood. I realy apprecaited this a lot!
14.4. wednesday - leaving makuleke camp i was never good in saying goodbye
... i woke up the first time ever to leave an ecotraining camp without even a slight hangover!
The students all helped me to pack my car and after breakfast i left camp... and i have to write that i had some tears in my eyes when i got on middle road. I dont know if it was bcs i was happy to leave the instructor and the childish treatment he gave me or bcs leaving the other people behind i spent an intensiv month together or maybe bcs i knew i will never come back to this magic place...
thanks a lot to all students which were part of this trails guide course. i hope we will stay in contact!
anyway - i left and drove to nelspruit. Arrived 6,5 hours later at jen&dees house and was exhausted!
15.4. thursday slept on the sofa and felt so much better after the long sleep. Specially bcs i didnt have to get up for anything at all 😊
i took all the stuff out of my car and realized that i took the rats from makuleke with and a frog as well... need to make a plan to get rid of them. Maybe i need to buy a trap... before they will chew all the cables. Until now they just made a nest and left their droppings everywhere.
Later on i updated the travelblog and chatted online with friends - it was so good after nearly 2 months not being able to chat with realy good friends from home!
I checked as well my emails and updated my CV.
16.4. friday went at 9 to berg-en-dal to meet nadine brotschi and rubi. They had a nice chalet with an extra bed, so i stayed there over night. We went on a 2 h afternoon drive and had a braai in the evening. Exchanged some gossip and had a nice and relaxed evening 😊
17.4. saturday at 6 am we left berg-en-dal. They went to rocktail bay on the coast and
i went back to nelspruit
but i stopped pretoriouskop camp to meet sarah nurse from the one year course. After i was back in nelspruit we (jen & dee and myself) went to jock & java to have a beer. After the second one we left the place to go home and have a party there... some friends joined us and it was a nice evening. At arround 10 they all decided to go out again - but i stayed behind. I had an appointment with dale for lunch and i did not want to be hangovered for lunch, and i knew it would be a very late night!
18.4. sunday went with dale for lunch - he now became a good friend after i met him briefly in february 2008 in karongwe. Thank you very much to make the partly unpleasant makuleke time pleasant, for all the talks and the mental support and for being a strong shoulder to lean on !
19.4. monday organized the 6 month multipl entry visa for mozambique (paid 350 rand)
wanted to open a banc account... but my documents are older than 3 months so i am not able to open

with - i think - a mine in the background which creates a lot of pollution one today.
20.4. thuesday met barend du toit a singita trainee at the riverside mall, got an update what is going on there and how the training is. Was nice to chat with him - even i never met him before.
I went shopping afterwards and bought 4 new books ! a book with indigneous plants, one with poisonous plants, an other bird book (about the 7th...) and a game ranger in a backpack from megan, an instructer we had during the basic birding in karongwe.
Back home i started to read through them... until late evening !
21.4. wednesday studying - updated my DG logbook - went to buy a plastic-box for my books, bcs the makuleke mice/rats started to chew my paper box and i did not wanted that they get to my expensive books!
went with jen & dee to the police to get the *proof of resitent* paper stamped - so maybe now i can open a banc account... and it was unbelivable: the police officer didnt even check the paper or one of our passports! Dee just smiled at him and all went smooth...
22.4 thursday got up late, bcs dee had
night shift and jen went to her parents over night... so no one at the house in the morning.
organzied some small things, ate breakfast and after 9 dee came back from work.
23.4. friday went to the mall to buy new earphones, sunglasses and other things i will need in mozambique... and wanted to open a banc account but this time i forgot my passport!
24.4. saturday dale - the birthday man - fetched me with his new landrover at 7.30 and we went to mankele (http://www.mankele.com) to go cycling ! the weather was overcast, but perfect weather to cycle! There are different routes you can choose and we decided to do a moderate 20km loop. It took us some hours, it was an amazing tour. A lot of single trails and quite some technical parts with lots of trees on the left and right 😊 some nice downhills and some ramps... i realy enjoyed it - even if i am not bike fit anymore. Saw one guy who passed us with a DT carbon shock ! i will be back to mankele for sure - a great place to cycle.
In the evening jen&dee and myself
went to jock & java for some drinks. Met one of the manager of the mine - a geologist - and had a chat with him and his wife until we had to leave quite quickly...
25.4. sunday Went for lunch at 1 o'clock with dale, the irish jeniffer, jen & dee at j&j in nelspruit - that was a funny combination of people 😊
After the lunch jen & dee went to barberton to visit family for some days - means that i am alone at their home... wierd to stay at someone's place and they are not arround. South african hospitality ! imagine that in switzerland...
The afternoon i spent surching for a job and connecting with people and checking accounts, writing emails and updating blog news.
Horrible weather - like autumn in switzerland. Foggy, drizzling and freezing cold... doesnt help me to feel good at all!
26.4. monday stayed in bed until 8.30... was not in a very good mood and there was no reason at all to get out of bed. Finally updated facebook with pictures and went to bring my bike for a service.

And of course i couldnt open one... this time i had all the papers with me what the lady asked me last time, but now they told me that i can not open a banc account because i do not have a valid work permit stamped in my passport! They could tell me this before, then i would not waste my time to organize this papers!!! Unbelivable unorganized bunch of twats...
In the evening i chatted to indi - a student i met in makuleke - who is from kenya and finally sent my CV to her as well. How great it would be to work in kenya!!! But i keep my expectations low - very low... if you do not expect something you can not get disappointed!
Today i ate nothing than junk food... and tomorrow i will feel bad about it! one of this days where you have to compensate your mood with junk food...
One of these days where i can not appreciate that i am in south africa, that my best friends are not arround and no one can realy understand me!
27.4. thuesday got
NELSPRUIT
during the strike. looked terrible and you can imagine the smell... late out of bed - again. Didn't do a lot exept shopping shampoo, shower cream a.s.o. for the 2 month in mozambique. Arranged all my boxes and bags - therefor i am ready to leave!
cleaned my car, bcs the rats from makuleke are still living in it... and i bought a rat trap to end this!!! Hope i will catch them with some swiss chocolat 😊
the first thing i caught was... surprise-surprise... myself ! that hurt, autch !
in the evening i chatted to some friends all over the world and got into a strange mood of beeing alone in a country i dont know. Getting a bit paranoid of not getting a job - but maybe thats bcs i am still swiss and would like to be in charge of my life and organize ahead...
28.4. wednesday got up at 8 and ate breakfast - did some paper work and enjoyed the nice weather. After 3 days of shitty weather it is nice and sunny again!
in the afternoon i went to belfast to pick up dale and we drove the 130km back to white river where he invited me for a fish braai at his

during the strike. looked terrible and you can imagine the smell... mates place where he lives at the moment. his 2 friends - both chefs - braaied an excellent dinner and we had some beers with it. now i know how to clean prawns and how to make the sauce for them... (bcs I watched dale and clinton doing it, while I was having a cold beer and did the supervising and swiss quality check 😊)
29.4. thursday got finally up at 8 and wrote applications, sent the CV to 2 places...
fetched my bike - it needed a service... couldnt change gears propperly when we went to mankele. When i wanted to put it into my car i realized that the front quick release was broken (what was not the case when i brought it to the service) so i went back into the shop and told them. They told me that they will replace it, that they have to order the part in joburg... and they gave me a normal one meanwhile. Cool guys 😊

mankele bike trail
went with dale to mankele for a 20km bike ride. amazing landscape and superb technical trails :-)
unfortunately i didn't take any pics on the technical part. i did my best to stay on the bike and couldn't think of taking pics :-) the flight) and did a general service. That would cost probably far more in switzerland...
back home i updated the travelblog with this words and pictures.
Tomorrow I will drive from nelspruit to the orpen gate and then into the KNP to letaba camp and cross the border at giryiondo to mozambique...
Apparently on sunday i will fetch some guests at letaba camp - means i will cross the border back into south africa after 2 days already 😊
I am realy excited to start working there. Finally working as a trails guide ! a dream comes true...
