Saint Lucia Crocodile Center Today is an exciting day as we get to volunteer at the Saint Lucia Crocodile Center and learn about the different types of crocodiles including the Nile Crocodile, Dwarf Crocodile, Slender-Snout Crocodile as well as the American Alligator. The role of the center is to monitor and research crocodiles in the area and rehabilitate and release problem and injured crocodiles.
The Six Enclosure Project When we reached the Crocodile Center our group was separated into two teams. For half of the day Renata and I worked on the Six Enclosure Project. The enclosures will be used to rescue and rehabilitate more crocodiles. Our job was working on clearing the area so that they could start work on the enclosure. It was tiring work as we machete through the long grasses, and cut large scrubs in the African heat.
Painting Juvenile Crocodile Enclosures After about an hour and a half we switched with the other group and we worked on painting the juvenile crocodile enclosures. Painting the enclosure was a lot of fun but a little scary because the crocodiles in the water at any moment could pounce at
us.
Crocodile Tour After lunch we got a tour of the crocodile center from Johan the crocodile expert, who works at the center rehabilitating and releasing crocodiles. We met the largest crocodile at the center and his concubines, the crocodile that almost mauled Johan and the alligator called Bubbles who likes to make noise whenever Johan is around.
