Laitettiin se majapaikan jääkaappiin tekstillä "Only for Finnish Visitors". Pretty relaxed few days here. It's getting a little repetitive so I've stopped posting every day. We went on a hike on 5 hour Wednesday where I managed to get pretty bad sun stroke half an hour before finishing. That wiped me out for the rest of the day and most of Thursday. I spent a lot of Thursday afternoon with the tiger cub called enjoy, who has taken a liking to my shoes. I visited the monkeys and meerkats next with Callum where I bonded with cookie the pony and nala the female meerkat. ... read more

After oversleeping horrendously I finally made it to our early morning session! Glad I did make it as we were chopping up cows again for the predator enclosure. I was allowed to chop the leg off one of them so was pretty happy. We fed these chunks of meat to the tigers, white lions, lion cubs and cheetahs all of which were pretty happy to see us with a trailer full of meat! After breakfast I managed to blag my way onto the newbies game drive and saw the lion pride basking in the sun. It was safe to say the others weren't happy with me after that, but they got the opportunity to see them after so hopefully aren't too angry. We relaxed this afternoon and listened to Shane reading us the game of thrones ... read more

We repaired roads this morning by filling pot holes with rocks and sand - que lots of displays and manly strength. This led to me and Laura chanting "I am man I lift many rocks" On the game drive this afternoon we managed to see the hippo out of water again and 4 giraffe hidden in the trees. We repaired a bridge in the afternoon which basically involved us shovelling sand and "accidentally" throwing it at each other. Booking to go great white shark diving this weekend - going to be crazy, I can't wait!... read more

Our first full day here. After being woken by lions roaring it's safe to say that for once we were happy to be awake. After orientation at 7:30 and breakfast we met with the local vet before heading off on a game drive. It couldn't have been a better experience to start the trip off with! We got right up close to a hippo, an elephant herd, zebras, wildebeest and a lot of impala! In the afternoon we headed to the on-site petting zoo with a difference. Here we went into the spider monkey cage where they used us as climbing frames and tried to eat our jewellery, we then went to the meerkat area where we got to cuddle two adorable meerkats. Of course we took loads of selfies with the animals! Finally for our ... read more

So after a horrendously long journey which involved pissed angry South African women, questionable fruit yogurts, a 9 hour overnight stop in jo'berg and exploring the rock pools in Port Elizabeth, we finally arrived at kwantu! We met all the other volunteers over mutton, rice and cake before being shown our dorms! The most exciting thing was finding out we have proper toilets and not just holes In the ground. There are no words to describe the stars and sounds around here and pictures and videos just don't do them justice. Tomorrow is our first full day - can't wait!... read more

Hier verblijven we twee nachten in Hitgeheim. Vanavond hebben we o.a. Gemsbok gegeten. Dinner, Overnachting : Hitgeheim, Addo... read more

I woke up on the 4thday of the tour feeling refreshed and grateful that we were able to upgrade to a private room. I don’t know why it made such a difference, because I didn’t mind sharing the dorm style room with the other travelers. I mean, sleeping in a room with 2 people isn’t all that different than sleeping in a room with 8, as long as each person has their own bed. But, it felt amazing. Today didn’t exactly go as planned. The plan was that we were going to go for a hike first thing in the morning, then go for zip-lining, a quick lunch, then off to another wild cat sanctuary (where I was promised the opportunity to play with 3 lion cubs), then canoeing in the evening before heading to our ... read more
