Dear people who know me, I am spending the next 4 months in Dakar, Senegal in West Africa. I’m studying abroad through Emory, and I’ll be taking classes and living with a host family. Hopefully I will also be doing an internship. If you got an email sending you to this page to read this, that means I’ve put you on my mailing list to receive an email every time I update this page. I have no idea how often that will be. If you don’t want me to contribute to your inbox traffic jam, just send me an email and I’ll take you off the list. Don’t worry, you can still visit my travel journal by following the same link. Below you’ll find the first entry. It’s pretty boring because I just got here, but ... read more

Hey y'all, I was a former Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal from 2001-2003. My former teacher is now a private tutor and lives in Dakar. She speaks French, Wolof, and Pulaar and can tutor in all three of these languages. She's taught Wolof at University of Ohio and is fluent in English. If you're interested, please contact me and I will send you her email address. I can also send you emails of other Peace Corps volunteers who knew her and studied with her. We will all tell you that she's not only an amazing teacher, but hilarious, warm, and a very nice person. Natasha ... read more

Talking about dolphins, and other marine life, yesterdays post closed out early because I took an available opportunity to get email sent from the Chief Officer’s cabin this time. I think it helped that a shot a cool still sequence of the Second Officer’s wife, Sonya, so I got to use the system early. The Fuji 6.02 still cam is impressive and I’ve been getting cool shots. Besides this, we were 8 miles off Dakar earlier and I was told that you can get cellphone reception for 20 minutes so I got the chance to phone home from 'Monkey Island', the highest point you can safely get to on the ship. This was a supremely surreal... read more
