It was all happening in the centre of town in Marrakech..

Snake charmers, street plays, food stalls, souks (markets) selling everything from shisha to colourful handmade carpets, hand made Moroccan ceramics, people approaching you from every angle to eat their seafood, drink their freshly squeezed orange juice.....complete madness!

Louise, Sarah and l commenced a 9 day intrepid tour by arriving into Marrakech one day earlier to soak up the Morrocan culture before the tour began. We spent 3 days trekking the tallest mountain in Northern Africa - The Atlas Mountains. The views from the mountains were incredible. l've never seen such beauty - snow capped mountains on one side and dry, green mountains on another. We stayed in little villages in the middle of the mountains, no hot water, little heating, home cooked Moroccan tagines and mint tea to wash it all down. With each others conversation for entertainment and the local Berger ladies singing there classic Arabic tunes.....it was what l could imagine life be like many centuries ago. It felt for a split moment l understood the meaning of life..or at least l thought l did?! They are happy, healthy villagers and l wondered often whether they

knew their front and back yard had one the most breathtaking views in all of Africa?!

After spending 4 days in the mountains we then went onto the coast for some
sea and sun. Essouria was a great place to be after the mountains. It was
like the Torque of Victoria - a surfers city - lots of shops, bars, restaurants. From there we went back to Marrakech and spend the last few nights shopping and bargaining in the souks. Sarah and Louise kindly wanted to test the theory of selling camels and decided to do so by selling me for 800 camels and a couple of pairs of shoes each! Apparently a done deal by the everyone and l had no say in it!

We said goodbye to our tour group. Like most tours l've been on, we all got on really well together and after spending 10 days together it was a hard to depart.

Morocco Intrepid Tour Feb 06 - Thanks for a mind blowing trip.

Camel Rip Off
Hon - I think we got ripped off! You're worth far more than 800 camels... but the shoes were nice! :o)
