Off all the gins joints in all the world, I had to walk into Rick's. Then I left, because it was fucking 200 DH for 3 courses. Casablanca. I had the notion in my head that Morocco would be a pastiche of faded colonial glory, and until reaching Casa, I had been a little disappointed, finding it only in places. Casa, too, has its new town and the huge development schemes along the port. However, you can wander the once-lively streets where all the former colonial offices and embassies were, and visit the sites where international intrigues took place during the first and second world wars. Again, there was not much info available locally, so we had to go online to locate such interesting places. Originally, I had planned to have three nights in Casa; as ... read more

I went to Morocco with Sofian by plane,we took the plane at the airport “Orly Sud”.We went to the gate n°4, but Sofian lost his passport, and we have spent one hour in the airport to find it. Fortunately,we found it in a fast food restaurant in the airport where we had eaten two hours before. We took by the plane n°987.... read more

... I probably wouldn't choose to go in one here. :-) Casablanca is open for business. The minute we step off the shuttle in the centre of the city we are accosted by taxi drivers who are “making special price just for us” to see the whole city. Time and again we are told it's a big city so we should use the taxi – impossible to walk. We still chose to walk and we are happy we did. What a place! Chaos, beauty and garbage all living in harmony. Casablanca is home to Hassan II Mosque. Pay the $15...it's worth the tour. First time in a mosque for both Chris and myself. This one was built between 1987-1993 and boasts the highest minaret (tower) in the world. There is a main hall for prayer, Roman ... read more

Day 10 Back to Casablanca!!! It's now just 17 of us, the British have parted ways from our group as they fly home from Marrakesh. We arrive at the Ibis City Centre Hotel, and the day is a short one. We had a guided tour of the city and saw the second largest Mosque-Mosque Hassan II, and relaxed at the hotel. The tour had come to an end and we enjoyed every bit that we could. To summarize, we enjoyed this trip immensely and would recommend Morocco to any that have the sense of adventure in them. It was amazing to see such a way of life but we’re both happy to return home to our family and friends. Travelling allows you to learn so much and appreciate what you have. DAY 2 - Paris to Casablanca We travelled from Paris to Casablanca on a 3 hour flight with Air France. Things went very smooth for us, a lengthy line up once we made it to Morocco customs was just our luck. We took a taxi from the airport and arrived safe and sound to our hotel 'Prince de Paris' it was pretty nice, clean but in the middle of the chaotic city of Casablanca. Once we got settled in, we went to the conference room and met our group and our tour guide. Her name is Anne, she is from Britain. We are a part of a pretty large group-43 of us, mostly British. We've befriended a brother and sister from Australia, Karen and Bernard. We had a buffet supper at the hotel. Enjoyed some wine ... read more

I never thought one could have so many adventures in less than 24 hours! For starters, our flight from Atlanta was delayed, which left us with a very tight layover in Paris to get our connection to Casablanca. Once we landed at Charles de Gaulle airport, things slowed down to a "French" pace. The bus took forever to go from one terminal to the next, under freezing tempratures & passengers packed in like sardines. We ran with all our might while it was way past our boarding time, only for me to be held up by the security for my tiny bottle of Purell hand sanitizer! Surely, it would have been a pity if that made us miss our flight but we made it. Along the way, we also met a lady quite randomly & started ... read more

Shookran means thank you in Moroccan Arabic. There are a few different languages commonly spoken in Morocco; Arabic, Moroccan Arabic and 3 different types of Berber dialect. This is pretty intense for just one country. After 3 amazing weeks in Morocco, I got dropped off at the airport in Casablanca. There are only 2 terminals. I am dropped off at the wrong terminal. I started getting flustered as everything was in Arabic. Imagine waiting for the 6 train at 77th street at 8:30am. That is how crowded part of the airport was. I have been to airports that are so large you can take a 25 minute transfer and have been perfectly fine finding my way. This airport was super small - yet extremely confusing and unorganized. After checking in, I had to go through security ... read more

The train ride up to Casablanca from Marrakech was wonderful. The AC was so high that I actually got cold for the 1st time in over 2 weeks. It was marvelous. This is mainly because I purchased a 1st class ticket for about $20. If I spent around $12, I could have ended up with livestock. In my little cozy car, there were 4 other people. One of these people was a Moroccan girl who spoke English beautifully. She was a former Au Pair in France. She spent so much time in France that she decided to go to university there. It also helped as she had a French boyfriend (who we talked about for 10 minutes as he didn’t speak a word of English). Arriving in Casablanca was a tad strange. It was a city… ... read more
