This weekend was fairly uneventful. Saturday I went to the beach with Bethany. We had a little mix up with the tro-tros on the way there and on the way back so what should have been a 20 minute trip to the beach quickly turned into an hour and a half trip there and two hour trip on the way back… Lesson learned, its worth the extra couple cedis just to take a taxi. Sunday we went to Osu to do a little shopping. Unfortunately everything is closed on Sundays so there wasn’t much there to keep our attention, but we wandered around for a little bit. The taxi driver that took us to Osu was really great and didn’t try to rip us off and helped us out a lot. I learned that if you find a decent taxi driver you should definitely get their cell number because it will come in handy later.
Today I went to my real dance class. I am still the only Oburuni in there but the expectations are really low for me. I have the same teacher but he slowed down the steps a lot more and I was able to figure

my new friend out what on earth I was supposed to be doing. It was a little scary because I knew that everyone was watching me, but a lot of the Ghanaians in the class were just as awful as me! So that is going to be an interesting class!! After that I called my new taxi driver friend and he came and picked us up to go back to Osu. I have really been wanting to go to this store that takes traditional African fabrics and makes contemporary clothing with them. I bought 3 BEAUTIFUL dresses and I’m really excited about them. They even alter them for free so I have to go pick them up on Wednesday.
There really hasn’t been to much excitement going on around here, just keeping ourselves busy so I figured I should use this post to go into details about everyday Ghanaian life. Right now we are in the middle of the dry season and its really kicking into full gear. The roads here aren’t always paved and the dirt is really dry right now so its really really dusty. Every time I go outside I get this film of red dirt all over me.

Me and Bethany, we met at the JFK airport and have been attached at the hip ever since Its getting really disgusting, the worst part is that my hair never feels clean and my sheets are always dirty from the dirt in the air. I finally got the fan in my room fixed though so it will be a little cooler.
The food here is pretty good for the most part. It is spicy, but I would say its about the same spiciness as Cajun food. Near the hostel there is a night market where I eat a lot just because of convenience. It is literally a market with stands that sell food and there is this guy who sells bootleg DVDs, another guy who sells shoes, and even a guy who repairs cell phones. For breakfast the only option really is an egg sandwich where they fry an egg and put onions and scallions and put it on a roll that tastes like sweet Hawaiian bread. Its really good and is only 50 cents, but it gets old quick. The other thing Ive been eating a lot of there is from this stand where they have different kinds of meat on a stick. My favorite is the beef sausage that they roll in this spicey powder
Campus 002
There are these HUGE lizards all over campus! that is almost like Tonys but better (yea, I said it, its BETTER than Tonys!) There are also restaurants on campus and in each hostel that we eat at most of the time. There is this one restaurant pretty close that is called the Basement and they have really good Ghanaian food but they also have really good cheeseburgers and french fries (which they call chips here) for when I need some American food. The ice cream here is AMAZING!! they must use real vanilla for the the flavor or something because the vanilla is so good!
Well thats just a little of the day to day stuff in Ghana, nothing too exciting going on right now, just really starting to go to classes and get a routine down. This weekend we are taking a trip to the Cape Coast where there is this huge castle that Ive seen a lot of pictures of and that is also where we walk on the rope bridges over the forest 😊 Should have some good pictures of that. I was finally able to upload some pictures so I hope you enjoy!!
