Good Morning everyone!
We drove through the Columbia River Gorge and on to Idaho after leaving Portland. We decided to head north to Shoshone to visit the Shoshone ice caves. It is a cave inside an ancient lava tube that we climbed down into. There were bones of ice age bears that had been stuck inside the cave and couldn't get out. It was a pretty neat tourist trap. The girls got some polished rocks and some collector spoons. We then headed over to Craters of the Moon National Park. That is an interesting landscape to say the least. It is amazing that the whole land out there is covered in lava flows from thousands of years ago, it makes for an alien landscape. After that we headed to Idaho Falls and up to the Grand Teton National Park. We spent the night outside of Jackson Hole in the Targhee ? National Forest at the Pine Creek Campground. We then head into the Tetons, which are so beautiful~ From there we went to Yellowstone. We didn't see any wildlife in the Grand Teton's and southern Yellowstone. But after making it to the first junction we saw some female elk and
Breanna and Kayleigh
On top of a hill at Craters of the Moon then we started seeing herds of buffalo around the Biscuit Basin. We took the Eastern Entrance out in a snowstorm. I want to come back in that way from Cody, Wyoming. (founded by Bill Cody) because it is GORGEOUS there. I want to take mom back in and see the northern loop, which we skipped because we were running out of time. The Eastern Gate closed at 8pm. From there we drove through the night down to Cheyenne.
Yesterday we went to the Francis E. Warren AFB where our brother in law works and is stationed. He showed the girls the helicopter he flies in, a '69 Huey. Our grandfather, who passed away two years ago in November was stationed here during the Korean War. I can't remember what he did, but if Gramma is reading this maybe she could tell me... haha. By the way, I had to service my laptop and don't have Gramma's cell phone number. I called Dad and he hasn't returned the call yet. If any auntie or uncle have the cell and are reading this, we will be in Minnesota in a couple of days. Have Gram call my cell at 907-399-1656 please
so we can meet up with her at Auntie Barbara's. Thanks.
Okay, mostly all we did yesterday was laundry and showers and repack the truck after we cleaned it all out. We ordered pizza for supper and sat in the computer room and watched slideshows of the over 500 pictures we have taken so far. Gotta love digital photography. Since we are on a cable connection here I can put more up today.
Well, today we are going to some thrift stores, the museum and then on to Kearney, Nebraska to spend a night with a friend of ours and then the next night we will head north to MN and then on to Mondovi, Wi to Jake's familiy's farm. From there we spend one night and then the girls and I head up to my mothers house to spend one night and visit with our grandfather before heading out to Ontario for a ten day camping/fishing trip.
More later... Hope you are all enjoying our journal so far!!
