Lisa and the girls
Near Christochina and Sutton Alaska Hello out there...
I would have done this sooner, but my laptop power connection crapped out on me... ugh.
So, when we are in Cheyenne I am sending it out to be serviced from the UPS store. We are visiting Jake's Aunt Nora and Uncle Mark. They have a son, Eric, who is six, so the girls are having a ball. We are staying the night at their house tonight.
So, our trip started out slowly because Jake had forgotten to have our spare tire changed to the new size that we got put on. So, we drove up the highway to Tok through the night to attempt to get on schedule. We were on time when we left there. HOWEVER>>>>
I did not account for the terrible frost heave conditions of the northern Yukon, so we slowly lost our schedule again. It was very hot our first day and the gas was about 1.09 a litre. We drove down to Whitehorse and camped at the Takhini Hot Springs for free. The hotsprings were not open however.
The next day it began to rain as we drove. We went all the way to Liard hotsprings. It
Kluane Lake
In the Yukon was raining miserably hard and the gates were locked so we tried to go to the same lodge I had stayed at for $60 Canadian. It was all cut off by a newly constructed driveway that had a bulldozer in it. So we went up the road to find that they charged 115$ a night Canadian, and no pets allowed. So we drove down the road. While we were at the hotsprings at 930pm a truck came up and wanted to know how to get out. Apparently they got there at 9 pm and were locked into the park. Luckily we were stopping to take pics.
On the way there we had seen lots of black bear and bison on the highway.
So we drove all through the night till we got to Poplars Campground on the outside of the Rockies. On the way we went through a snowstorm and I got worried that it would be a bad trip but it was nothing big. We missed all the sights of the Rockies which was a big bummer for me. So we slept in the truck when we got to the campground because we didn't want to wake
them up for a cabin price that we might not want to pay.
So in the morning we waited for them to open at 8pm. They didn't open. At nine they came into the building, did some things and left the property without opening or asking us anything. So we took cat baths in the washrooms and got back on the road and went up to Toad river where we took cute pics.
We then continued to drive as there was nothing else left to do... haha. This time we chose to stop in Moberly Lake. We stopped on a cute lake that had swans on it. We cooked up our Halibut and made campfire spaghetti to make sure that our food didn't go bad. But it was raining again so we drove YET AGAIN through the night.
We finally arrived in Marble Canyon Provincial park which is really really really pretty. I want to go back there one day, but its in southern British Columbia.. lol.
After a good nights sleep and warmed up spaghetti for supper we broke camp and ate eggs, bacon and fried up english muffins.
We drove down to Seattle
Cinnamon Bun Whirlpool Canyon
I don't remember if this is in BC or the Yukon only to find that the state park I chose was closed, we went to the next state park to find that it was also locked and closed. We drove around all night long looking for a camping place. We finally slept for two hours in a Denny's parking lot before getting Jake at the Seattle airport. We got breakfast and drove down to Portland and spent the night at a La Quinta Inn and Suites by the airport. Today we spent time with Jakes family and visiting Fort Vancouver the old headquarters for the Hudson Bay Company.
So now we are about to go to dinner so I must leave. Pictures can be put up later....
Our Aunt Nora and Uncle Mark SPOILED US ROTTEN, she just baked us cookies too!! YIPPEE>>>>
Thank you both so much for the great visit we hope to come back sooner than later.
The girls really enjoyed playing with their "new" cousin Eric, who is also six. Our cousin Hanne in Denmark will be tickled to learn that they are Danish imigrants, last name is Gravengaard. I will have to find out more so I can do some genealogy work
Greetings
From Toad River BC on it. haha.
We are going to go get some groceries and then head out again. It is noon/1230 now and we have no plans other than make it to Idaho to camp tonight I think. Nora and Mark are trying to talk us into moving down to Portland. I did not like Seattle at ALL... but so far I really really like the look of Portland. Perhaps we might come back here one day. I certainly wouldn't mind as far as I have seen so far.
It is time to head out on the road so I will update this in Cheyenne, WY. Thanks everyone... hope to hear from you... if you want postcards email faemystique@gmail.com with your addresses please!!
I want to hear from you guys so give me a message or two.. until later...
Ciao
