Hi All
I've got a new job on a lovely Island just off the east coast. It's one of the Whitsundays and it's called South Molle Island. See www.southmolleisland.com.au if you want to check it out.

I'm working in housekeeping which is pretty damn hard in this heat and it's only going to get hotter as the australian summer starts! Cleaning toilets and bedrooms is never glamorous but it's fine for the moment and not bad in this cool location.

The people are all very friendly and there is lots of sports to do when you're not working - sailing, tennis, bush walking, basketball, lazing on the beach or drinking! Thursday is a big night out and everyone does Karaoke - i usually hate this but i did have a go last week in a group singing an aerosmith tune.

We had a full moon party on saturday at a small bay next to our resort - it was a trecherous walk in the dark to get there but a great party with the fire and everyone was drinking lots of Goon. It was one of the canadian guys birthdays so he got a cake but instead of

A crazy night of drinking games at Magnums for Laurel's birthday
eating it decided to rub it in Bex' face then they went swimming in the ocean too - Crazy!

We took a hike up the mountain the other day to watch the sunset which was absolutely beautiful.

The staff turnover here is quite high due to all the backpackers so after only 2 weeks Laura and i are now long service staff! I was the only Scot until the other day when 4 Scottish guys arrived to work in the kitchen. 2 of them are from Glasgow and Adam is actually from Milngavie - very small world! Hearing the accent and talking about Glasgow has made me slightly homesick, especially as my mate Yvonne has had a baby this week and Lisa & Samantha are both pregnant and i'll not get to see all their lovely mugs til May! That being said i can't believe how quickly time is passing - that's me been away for 5 months nearly!!

This week we're having a superheroes and villians fancy dress party - can't quite decide who to go as but i'm sure there will be good pictures from that one to post on the blog.

A Kiwi Stranger!
Hi JMc. You don't know me, my name is Jess and I live in NZ. I used to work in the Whitsundays on Daydream Island so I know the area well, beautiful place! I'm thinking of passing back through there in September 2007 (your blog came up when I did a 'google' search for employment there) Can you please tell me if September - December is the busy season? I've forgotten ... it would be great to get some tips from you on seeking work again, as it was back in 1997 (I was 19 then) when I was there working on Daydream as a waitress. My partner will be in the area working on a private yacht, so my goal is to also work for a few months then we will meet up and explore a little more of Aussie before returning to NZ. I hope you can help, but if not I understand (I'm not even sure if you are still there!) I'm not a weirdo stalker - I promise! Just wanting a few tips from a 'Whitsunday's local'. Take care, Jess.
