Passing the TorchPassing the TorchPassing the Torch

The torch is finished and will be used in a school ceremony later today.
A very busy week! Lots of groups wanting to make things! Katie and I started a couple of seahorse lanterns. More sharks being built. Lots of animal masks. A giant eagle. A giant manatee. The giant deer, for which I'm working on the antlers. The reed material we got in last week is getting lots of use.

Chinese Melody invites us to an evening barbecue at her school. They're one of the schools that have been hosting Samba workshops. I'm the only one of our group who makes the trip. The principal himself picks me up! Quite a scene. Over a hundred folks, in small groups, each with their own little grill setup. Sausage, corn, fishcakes, pork, chicken, prawns, octopus, sea snails, squid, fish... When I leave, they give me my own "Barbecue in a Box" setup to share with the rest of the team!

It's 3am Monday morning, this is the first time I've been able to connect with this site in several days! I've uploaded a video by Jean Luis at

and hope to add that here soon. Thanks for checking in, the heat and mousquitoes are really getting to me. Check back, I may be adding a few more pix to this entry.

More weird food & product pix coming up!

I'm helping Katie make a seahorse lantern. I soaked reed in warm water so it would become more flexible. Here, the wet reed is stretched onto a nailed frame in the shape of a seahorse.
