Things were a bit easier at the hospital yesterday and I thought that maybe I was a fast learner, but then today a different consultant showed up and decided to ask me all sorts of weird and wonderful, and very specific, questions about papers published in the USA, protocols that I´d never heard of, etc. It was really frustrating because I knew what he was talking about when he was teaching the four younger medical students who were accompanying him, and I even knew the answers to things he was asking the junior doctors, but every time he spoke to me directly, he would choose some obscure topic and speak really quickly, so I hadn´t a hope of looking even half-way intelligent. Its so embarassing when they all turn around and look at you expectantly and you haven´t a clue what anyone has said in the last five minutes. But it´s ok, I think its just a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes I´m able to follow quite a bit, so I guess I just need to persevere.

Have bought myself one of those floppy hats with the plaits on either side.

Have also tried the local tipple - pisco. The mother

A very authentic way to spend our first night in Peru - eating Domino´s pizza while watching Brad Pitt in Se7en (in English) in the Manhattan Inn
gave me some last night cos she had friends over. I ended up having to entertain the little girl cos Liliana ran off to her room, so we played xsey oseys (or however you spell it) until that got tired and then drew a picture together, taking it in turns to draw a little bit at a time, which was fun. Any suggestions for other games that require neither language nor props would be welcome!

Room with a view
Your view is amazing! sigh. It'd be great to wake up to that each morning. I just wake up to a view of 60s council flats...
