Veggies for the curry.
After a long weekend in the Caribbean, it was time to go grocery shopping. I made a surprising discovery today. I actually found something a little more exciting than tortillas and beans that I could make for dinner. Supermercado Jumbo has coconut milk, curry powder, and asian noodles and had snow peas, peppers, and onions in their produce section. I was so excited! When I got home I set to work making vegetable curry. And it worked! (A special thanks to my bestest friend from back home who taught me how to make curry who is now living in Burma: Christina, it will never be as good as yours but it was a great break from beans and tortillas). Anyhow, I took pictues just so my mom would believe that I actually cooked 😊

Everyone knows how much I love to tell stories about the kids I work with. And anyone who knows me well, at some point or another, has probably wanted to tell me to stop. But the stories I am about to write come from the fifth graders in Miss Jenna's section A class written by them and just copied here by me. Its fun reading and

Look at that! I did it! I cooked!
I didn't bring enough books with me so making the kids write stories always keeps me entertained.

The following story is from an assignment that had to be written from the point of view of something non-human (animal or thing):

*The Hard Moments of the Dog

My name is Scott and I have pass for hard moments. One day I was outside looking if someone wants me to be his dog. I was walking in the street and I see a rich boy and I thought that I can have a good life with them. I was looking if he can adopted me but instead he trow me some rocks.

I'm a poor dog looking for a owner when I'm hungry I go to a place were is a lot of trash. Then I sleep near the trash when is very late. Also my friends sleep with me all stay together. When it is the morning, we go to a man that sometimes gave us a couple of fish. When I see inside the restaurant I llok a boy that look sad and I heard that he was looking for a dog. I was barking then he lloked at me with a face amazed. But then he go to his house. I was following he until we went to his house. He lived in street N.Y.

The rich boy was fighting with the boy who looked me yesterday. When the rich boy was about to throw a rock to the other boy I and bark at him he run to his house and he go crying. Then the boy looked at me and ran inside yelling dad, dad, dad. After awhile the boy came with his father. he said dad I want this dog to be my pet. Hmmm. Ok said his father and the boy jump with exciting. I go with the boy to his house and his mom was happy to have the dog.

My friends were sad because I will live with a family. I said to them to kept looking for a owner.

When I went to my house the first thing I do was take a shower with the boy because I have 1 week without taking a shower.

The End.

I am so impressed with their writing abilities in a second language. There were other good stories but this one just made me melt so I wanted to share it.

I am pleased!
Very good child, you are eating your vegetables!!! Seriously, enjoy the fresh produce, we had a hard frost this week and the tomatoes took a hit along with the corn and herbs left out on the porch at the farm house. I went to a quilting class today and worked on a flannel quilt. Looking at your pics, and then looking outside, you may get company sooner than planned. Love you !

Had to hook up with you as my last e-mail never made it. I resent it today. Any way the writing abilities of the kids are impressive, but the content made me sad. I'd just want to take him home.I know what you mean about the limited menu. When we're in Cabo for only two weeks I need to bring 1 suitcase of just food, and I love tacos and the like. The pictures are awesome, especially the falls, and the shoe store. It's calling me. Hope you had a happy birthday. Heard you got your 1 pkg. Hope you get ours-SOON! I love you...Aunt Sandy
