Turtle Beach Camp Site
The sites are small; parking is a beast; there are mosquitos at dusk; TV reception is zero; why do we LOVE this place so much? Here we are again!
We’re back at Turtle Beach and amazed that some of the folks we met year years ago are here. We’re all like the swallows of Capistrano – returning in chronological order. On our first night we all gravitated to our sunset spot, Richard, the California guy, blew his conch as the sun slipped into the Gulf of Mexico and his wife, Sue, conducted as we ladies sang the Turtle Beach song. “Take me out to the campground, take me out with my friends, buy me a bottle of AppleJack, etc.”
It is a wonderful mixed bag of fellow campers. A very young European couple are camped next to us – sleeping in their car. A family of 6 is tenting. The younger children are home schooled – the older girl is in cyber-school - which enables traveling at will. A couple from New Hampshire has the wife’s mother along; they put up a sign MAJ Jong and got a response to make their table complete. The tile game is set for the screened laundry room after the sunset gathering.

Our friend Suzie from North Dakota made the wood stork and flamingo while we were at Pine Island. hour “deals,” and have a salon for unisex haircuts and nail services in your phone address book. The beach is great, it’s not the white powdery stuff of the bigger and more famous Siesta Key Beach; but it’s not as crowded and traffic issues are minimal.
Among our favorite restaurants: Javier's, Turtle Beach Pub & Grill; Turtles; and Ophelia's are all withing 2 miles of camp. There's a cool French Creperie in Siesta Key Village and tons of great restaurants in downtown Sarasota and at St. Armond's Circle.
