Would you believe me if I told you this was the serious picture? :)
As one might be able to tell from the title above, my students have a brilliant command of our classroom language, Spanglish. I can't think of the perfect translation of desfilar, but it more or less means to line up and march (i.e. for a parade). Escuela Bilingue Honduras, grades 5-seniors, will be marching in a parade on Tuesday morning at 6a.m. and my students were less then enthusiastic during our 2 hours of practice in the blazing sun. It was rather amusing however, to watch them learn how to march from a cadet in the Honduran army that spent just as much time flirting with thier teachers as he did teaching them how to march. Precision and order just does not correspond with the way things are usually done here, so marching is a riot.

To further expand on the details relating to my day and parade preparation, I have to include that Sarah and I are now coaching the pom pon squad that is marching in the parade as well. The great thing about the pom pon squad is that, complying with Honduran standards, they just decided that they should have one today. Riiight. So that gives us

Outside practicing for the parade. Look at that enthusiasm.
5 days to learn 8 songs. The girls are great though and they will probably teach me more than I will teach them.

In other exciting news, last night when I was sitting in the central plaza reading, I met the person that takes care of the church (you can see a picture of the church on my very first blog post). After talking to him for awhile, I found out that we could go up in the bell tower. I was very excited and I told him I would be back on Friday with some friends and he said he would take us for the tour of the church. So check back for super cool pictures coming soon.

And finally, funny kid stories. As homework, the students were assigned to write one sentence using each of the 20 spelling words to work on vocabulary. These are some of my favorite sentences:
"I walk among you." (for the religious at heart)
"The chipmunks they fall from trees."
and finally, proof that the presentation on sex education to the parents had no impact -
"I take it in the trunk."

A "chipmunk" drawn on the board during spelling word pictionary today. After some discussion. I realized that they thought chipmunk was short for "chimp" and "monkey" combined.

Yay for us and the ponponaras. I asked Mercedes, and that is the official spelling. We'll get those girls spining and kicking in no time. So glad to be sharing in this experience with ya :)
