Edit Blog Post

Hi Again,

I have decided to try to complete my blog posts within the next few day. In that way I can get back to my regular life here of volunteering at Catholic Charities and taking Spanish classes. In this post I am putting more photos of Charco Redondo but the site is not accepting more photos than these in this post. I don't know if I am reaching a limit or not. 😞. It may take more than a few days to complete my entries.

Un taxi (collectivo) para Charco Redondo

This is the transport between the pueblos. This is one of the two taxis that goes to Charco Redondo. They are called collectivos since the taxis carry up to 5 passenger, for a reduced fare, to a particular destination or a stop along the route to that destination

I took a picture of the clothes on line of the neighbors across the road. I forgot to take a picture of my clothes on our line

Luci has her hair down after a shower. She is getting ready to pin it up, which is how she usually wears it. We are getting ready to go to mass in the town of San Jose Progreso where the priest says the mass.

These are their chickens which they call "free range" in the tree. It was my first glimpse of the coastal version of "free range chickens." They usually wander around the grounds, the outdoor kitchen and I even found one in my bed my first night there. I learned to close the door behind me!

The male turkey is raising his feathers in order to attract the attention of the female turkeys. I learned lots of lessons about the habits of chickens and turkeys since we all shared the same outside space.

These are large mangos that I was given and a branch of sugar cane that someone gave to mama. Oaxaca has the "don" or gift of mangos. They grow in all sizes and colors in most of the yards. People are really generous on the coast.

This neighbor stopped by to visit and my camera was ready and I took the opportunity to take a picture with her. Neighbors just drop by all the time. Mamá is a very social person.

This is one of the neighbors across the road from our house. She lived in the US for several years and one of her children was born there. She is the one who gave me a book to teach English to the kids.

This is the next door neighbor with her nephew. She got her very long hair cut (it hurt her neck) and she had on a nice dress so she was willing to pose for the picture

This is Simón who lived in the US for four years in order to save enough money to buy land to build a house and land to plant groves of limes, mangos, coconuts and other fruits. His wife stayed for 11/2 years and then returned to take care of their kids that they had left with relatives.

Love the photos!
Great pics! Now I see what you mean about "free range!" - funny to see them in the trees, I've never seen yard birds do that. I'm sure the food down there was fresh in every sense of the word! :-)
