Cory Edward Guenter
A cool & suave 70 year old man! "Happy Birthday to Yooouu, Happy Birthday to Yoooouu. You Are Seventy Years Old & I Love You!" Way back when.....we used to think anyone 70 years old was as old as dirt. Not anymore! Now, it just seems like we are comfortably arriving into the Golden Years full of fun, freedom and good fortune. Cory, you still have all the "get up and go" that you have always had since we met 52 years ago. When I just want to take a little rest, you are dancing around me like a whirling dervish with no lag in sight. "Fast Eddie" is an appropriate nickname. March 30, 1944 - Cory Edward Guenter was born in Kane, PA. to Dr. Fritz Edward Guenter and Mary Constance Connor Guenter. He grew up in the quaint little town of Smethport, PA. His given name is derived from his grandmother, Myra Cory, who lived in the next little town: Coryville - named for his ancestors, the Cory's. He has five siblings: Gail, Gwen, Cris, Alan & Scot. He has always been a good brother. Cory was the 2nd oldest. He was a fun loving kid and played baseball & basketball in school where he was A True Winner
Betting the Hard Six. Class President. He loved playing pool - aka: "Fast Eddie" - such a fitting name for him! He graduated from High School and enrolled at the University of Buffalo. He got his first favorite sports car, a red 1956 MGA, in his sophomore year. He eventually had two other MGA's which he was ever so proud. His enrollment at UB was a profound and magnificent move because this is where Cory and I met. Talk about life changing experiences! We ate in the same college dining hall. Here, in 1962, he threw a bread roll at me with his name on it. What a gift! So clever and tasty. An autographed bun from my future "Hon". It made a wonderful impression and everything was uphill from here. I would love to share the details of our first date and others with you but they are so extremely unique and special and consuming, I would be writing until Thursday to describe even one to you accurately. Maybe someday when I can't come up with something to write about.....I'll fill you in. Hmmmmm - have I gained your interest or are you just sighing with relief? Moving right along.... as you recall
from last year's blog, we eloped in 1964 making this our 50th anniversary year. The fantastic cruise we took earlier this year was our celebratory reward. Cory was always a very hard worker and selfless. He had goals and would successfully attain them. While attending college to get his Bachelors Degree, he also worked in the rugged, hot, open hearth pit at Republic Steel in Buffalo. All of this was because we were married and had two little daughters, Lory & Kim, to raise. He worked so hard to ensure we had what we needed and to be happy. When he graduated in December of 1967, we were expecting our son, Cory. In May, 1968, he was hired at Combustion Engineering Air Preheater Co. located in Wellsville, N.Y. His first position was as Assistant Personnel Manager. When he retired, in Oct., 2006, he had held the position of Vice President of Human Resources for the same company for 20 years. The company was then owned by Alstom Power Generation Co. He was highly respected and liked by everyone who worked for this company, locally and abroad. Cory was always active in our community and belonged and participated in many organizations
Yeah!
Winning & Jack Daniels. and groups. I don't think there is anyone in our area who doesn't know or has heard of Cory Guenter. Our son, Tim, was born in 1977. Our children will attest that he is the perfect father....best of all best and then even better. He is always there for each of them (and their families) no matter what. I always told our kids that "no one would ever love them more than their mother"....but I know that holds true for their father, also. Cory loves to tell his tales....his friends can attest to that. He is a kind and loyal friend and would not hesitate to help any of them at anytime. He would do the same for a stranger. He is a very good man. And lucky, lucky me......I have been married to him for 50 years. He has been the best husband ever. Words fail me (that's really saying something) when trying to perfectly describe the goodness and selflessness he has devoted unconditionally to me and our children. He's one of a kind. He is so special. So, on this milestone occasion, Happy Birthday wishes are bestowed upon him with much love and devotion. He has always strived
