After having seen all the sights of the big city of Bunbury we decided to have a tree change and headed east for the country again. Apple, plum and pear orchards and dairy farms changed into the rolling hills of the Southern Darling Escarpment again. A couple of hours later we arrived at Maranup Ford Farmstay. How beautiful. Surrounded by Radiater Pines and Blue Gum forests with the beautiful Blackwood River meandering around three sides of the farm owned by the Brownes,we set up camp in their gardens. The homestead has been in the family since the early 1900's. So peaceful, 2 friendly black dogs, 2 cats, red hens, ducks and abundance of pretty little birds (blue wrens, red Robbins, black cockatoos and parrots etc.) Spent the next couple of days checking out the nearby little towns. Bridgetown, set on the river, very quaint. It has a jigsaw puzzle museum and an apple cidery. Greenbushes, very old and small, has a tin mine and an interactive discovery museum that is well worth the visit, all about the mining and forestry businesses. They actually mine the tin for the lithium and tantalum which are used in computers, mobile phones and spaceships. Apparently it withstands the heat really well. Another little town we visited was Boyup Brook, known for it's annual folk festival but not much else. So it is time to go back to the seaside. As we travelled west again the rain set in. Passed through the pretty little township of Nannup (the up means plentiful so I guess there must be plenty of Nan's there, haha) kept going because the rain got heavier. Poured down. It eased off when we got to our next stop. Taunton Farmstay, actually a big 4van park that happens to have some farm animals. Lovely place near Cowarumup, between Margaret River and Busselton, very central for our next few days.
