Treck to Mt. Eden

The big event for my Sunday was a two mile hike out to Mt. Eden, another volcanic mountain, and the tallest in Auckland. What a great view to be had from the summit. The grass was almost iridescent green. Nothing like what I’ve seen in the states.

We were going to hike to One Tree Hill, another volcanic hill of cultural significance, but the weather changed quickly. Black rain clouds were moving in from the west. We did an about face and did some window shopping along Newmarket and Parnell streets.

The cone on Mt. Rangitoto look a lot like this but covered with vegetation so it was difficult to see the contours in the photos.

We are enjoying your fascinating updates and photos from your exciting adventures. It is great news to hear that your job interview has gone so well and that you are likely to have a position soon. How could they pass up a great guy like you, with such outstanding credentials ?? When I was your age, I nearly tood advantage of an offer by Australia, for free passage for a single person and a job as a Machinist Tool and Die Maker for one year and then a free return trip home. They needed skilled craftsmen and just knew that a single guy would find a lovely partner, marry, and stay in the country. At that time, my grandmother was becoming frail and I decided not to go while she was living andthen, I found a wonderful girlfriend too, so the experience never happened!
