We have left the woodlands district and entered the central wheat belt. Will really miss the salmon gums. We have passed through millions of acres of wheat stubble, and the country is very dry. Dams and creeks are bare. This is the head of the Swan and Avon rivers, don't know where they get their water from. We decided to bite the bullet and save ourselves about 100k of travel and took a dirt road shortcut to Wave Rock, Hyden. Actually was a brilliant road with no traffic. However, the dust was horrific. We called into Mulga's Cave along the way, then pulled into Wave Rock at lunch time. Had the place almost to ourselves. There is now a caravan park right at the rock which wasn't there when Mum and I came here 9years ago. Had a really good look around and decided to continue on up the road a bit further. Stayed at Gorge Rock for the night. They built a small pool in the rocks years ago for the locals. Even had a diving board although that has since been pulled down. Beautiful evening spent having a coldie and watching the sunset. How good is this country of ours. Today we passed through Corrigin, beautiful well kept town and then York and Northam, very old historic towns. We are staying in Gamalling for the next couple of days.
