We reached the final destination of our original journey when we landed at Dublin airport early Sunday morning to be greeted by Danny (friend from NZ) and also by the worst weather we had encountered for quite a long time, there were strong winds, rain and it was bloody cold. We were slightly concerned that this was an Irish "summer". However, later in the day it cleared up a little and stopped raining long enough for Danny to play a game of cricket. We spent the day watching the cricket and saw the world cup final at the cricket club before heading to our new abode in Blackrock. We are staying in a semi-detached three bedroom house with our landlords next door.

We are both playing cricket for a local club, Pembroke. In the first week we were here Anna had played 4 games as most of the ladies games are played in the weekday evenings.

We were both lucky enough to find jobs within a week of looking and then had another 4 days to get ourselves organised before we started work. Jared is working for a recruitment agency and Anna is working for a company that does consulting for the pharmaceutical industry. We both found it quite difficult to get back into the early starts and routines of working life but it must be done!

Our first impressions of Dublin are that it is a pretty exciting city, there is always something going on here, the inner city is quite vibrant and there are some nice little areas by the sea such as Dun Laoghaire (about 25 mins walk from where we live). The favourite local sayings are "best of luck to ya" and "grand". It takes a while to get used to the accents and the Irish talk ridiculousy fast.

We had our introduction to gaelic sport by going to Croke Park (with 71,000 others!!) to watch some gaelic football and hurling. Gaelic football is most similar to Aussie Rules and hurling is just crazy people running round with sticks firing balls as fast as they can. They are quite entertaining to watch and the atmosphere is pretty unbelieveable. We are heading to Landsdowne Road this week to watch Ireland vs Holland football so we are looking forward to that also.

Queens Visit
Hi, it appears to us that you have a photo of the Queen on the Liffey Bridge obviously on her way to your BBQ. Great that you hit it off with the aristocracy so early in your stay. Have enjoyed your many bloggs and have passed them on to a number of others.
