In 2010, I met Lee William Hodgson, a traveler from UK. He stayed for 2 months in our book shop and teach poor children in Medan. He introduced me Couchsurfing. He opened CS site when he prepared to visit Penang. He told me everything about CS.

Some months flies, I decided traveling to oversea alone, I opened the CS site. I was looking for Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia traveling. I wrote in Kuala Lumpur CS group. An American guy, Glen Novak, replied direct to me. He just visited KL and I got many information from him. He advised me to hosted by Val, an African guy in Batu Caves-KL.

Val is an CS member in KL who hosted Glen some months before. Then we made plan for travel together in Malaysia: Me, Glen, and Val. But Glen canceled his second trip to Malaysia because of his job. I felt disappoint, but I learn one thing from this: In CS, u need to have Plan B and C, besides Plan A 😊

Bus from airport dropped me to KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) and Val came to fetch me there with his car. Val is a tallest guy, has curly eyelashes and very black skin. He has soft voice and big laugh. He cooked African food for me. He boiled meal, tomatoes, chili, and all vegetables in same time inside crock pot more than one hour. We ate that with sago and use 5 fingers. Licked your fingers after you finish your sago 😊 It was weird taste for me. So I prefer ate rice with peanuts. I said to him, "Indonesian eat rice everyday. And I will die without rice". He made joke, "If one day you die, peoples just put rice to your mouth and you will wake up." Haha.

I was happy Val introduced African food. Val was a college student in KL, he told me about his Tourist Study but when he back to Nigeria, he want be a soldier because he want skip terrorist. It was so funny for me. He made me laughed many times. He talked about Africa and black peoples. I showed photos of black peoples in Indonesia. Also my favorite artist, Glen Fredly and Marcel. They are Indonesian musician who hv black skin. I gave Val some files of Indonesian songs include Glen Fredly and Marcel songs . He said, He want to come to East Indonesia one day, and see black brothers and sisters there. Welcome to my country, good African guy 😊
