My Longest Blog

It is only fitting that this blog will be my longest blog after the very short blog of the “Big Gas” truck stop in Bryan, Texas. Some people didn’t “get it”. Just say “Big Gas” fast. Anyway, I’ll start this blog with a contest. Just fill in the blanks and you could win: “This summer we want on a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Hint: The answer is the same for all of my contests. The first person that correctly guesses the answer will have the privilege of buying Holiday Road lunch at a dining establishment of his choosing.

Lunch on the Reservation

There is something about lunch under a cement teepee that just seems so right. The said cement teepee was located on the parking lot of a remote Casino. We didn’t bother going into the Casino. It was the high point of the trip between Santa Rosa and Mesa Verde. That isn’t saying much, but the high point it was. Better that than a blowout or flat tire.

Arches National Park and Silverton

We stayed at Mesa Verde for about a week and took two side trips during that stay. The Arches trip was an overnighter. On the way to Arches we stopped at the Wilson Arch and were bushwhacked by a Native American selling handmade jewelry. She came out of nowhere and caught us off guard. Shortly thereafter we stopped by a way cool ‘50s style tourist stop, “The Hole in The Rock”. Plenty to see there. I liked the two story outhouse. I have spent considerable time thinking about the concept and just can’t figure a downside to it. Archs was majestic but brutally hot. About 106-109 at 6 p.m. Silverton was just Silverton. I have been there so many times that has become a nonevent to me. To be continued....

your recent blog
Great to see you out and traveling again Holiday. I feel the same about Silverton. The first 15-20 times I went there it was exciting but now I just look at the mountains above it and barely notice the town. I also agree that the concept of the two story outhouse is intriguing. I can't wait for your next entry and the story of the rest of your summer trip.

Contest Answer
I'm guessing ..."This summer we went on a Vacation!" Glad you had a great vacation.
