We arrived home on the 3rd. of August after a 5 week stay in the Rockies. I made it a point to travel through Antonito to photograph these buildings. I don’t know what to say as they have rendered me speechless. You decide their purpose. Wish I could have gone on a tour. Here is a list of places (and people) that I wanted to see/ visit but didn’t get to: 1) The world’s smallest skyscraper- Wichita Falls, Tx. 2) Alien gravesite - Aurora, Tx. 3) Combine City (Cadillac Ranch in tractors) - Canyon, Tx 4) VW Ranch (Cadillac Ranch in VWs) - Conway, Tx 5) Route 66 Midpoint – Adrian , Tx 6) Nelson Pruitt. He was in Cortez just before I got there but had to return home. Nelson was the subject of several ... read more

Traveled to Lockhart State Park for spring break 2012. Stayed 3 nights. It was very quiet as the park only has 20 campsites. It also has a golf course. County prisoners are utilized to keep the grounds tidy. Two or three will ride around in a golf cart with a Park Peace Officer. I watched as an Officer attempted to open a car that had the keys locked in it. The prisoners were sitting in the golf cart waiting. Ironic. A man and his daughter in the next camp site were watching as the Officer struggled to unlock the car with a coat hanger; Daughter: “Daddy, why is that man in a striped suit?” Father: “He is a prisoner. He did something wrong.” Daughter: “What did he do?’ Father: “I don’t know, broke into a car ... read more

We departed Houston on the first of July. We were headed to SW Colorado for our summer _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Be the first to fill in the blanks and receive a free propylene glycol refill of you humidifier (if you are a cigar efect….. afect….. effectoin…. smoker). If you aren’t a cigar smoker and happen to win the contest, I will send you a cigar and you can become a cigar smoker. If you are having a hard time figuring out the answer to the contest, here is a hint: Connie Francis had a hit song during the month of July, 1962. Figure out the name of that song and you should have a pretty good idea as to the correct answer. We spent the 1st in Colleyville, the 2nd in ... read more

Spring Break 2011. Big plans. Taking my mother and two of her friends on a trip. We stopped at San Felipe (or San Phillip as the volunteer called it). I must say, not much to see there. There is a 175th Anniversary Passport that you take to various Hysterical attractions and have it stamped. San Felipe was included in the booklet, but not on the booklet map. Some one went to the trouble of inking “San Felipe de Austin SHS” on page 15 with the map. Drove on to Gonzales to see the “Come And Take It” cannon. Little did I know that I had been driving away from it all day. Seems as if someone from the Houston Museum “Came And Took It” to display in Houston. Now it’s on to San Antonio and the ... read more

We arrived at Chaco Canyon in early July. My goals were to see some Native American graffiti and get my 3rd. Jr. Ranger badge. I set up camp and went to the visitor’s center to pick up the necessary paperwork. Went to the truck and made up some answers. Took the booklet back in and presented my answers. That is when I got the bad news: “Holiday, we are out of Junior Ranger badges.” It was a low point of the trip, but I was now on a first name basis with Lauren, so all was not lost. I had to plead the 5th. when she asked me where I saw the car and tv petroglyph. She was so much more experienced than Sherri (see the blog about my 1st. Jr. Ranger badge). So confident. So….. ... read more

Showed up at Mesa Verde on July 3rd. Not a good visit. Dual total battery failures on the RV during the night. That sent me to Cortez on the 4th of July looking for batteries. There is only one place in Cortes to purchase deep cycle batteries on the 4th. Wal-Mart. I was attempting to have a Wal-Mart free vacation. Other than the battery purchase, I did have a Wal-Mart free trip. The lesson here is to load-test the batteries before a long trip. The Junior Ranger Badge was the best thing that happened at Mesa Verde this year. ( Well, they did fix the conflicting signs).... read more

Summer school is out and Holidayroad is on the move. Some have said that I am the alter ego of a certain individual who will remain anonymous. Truth be told, he is the alter ego. Spent some time at Petrified Forest National Park. Got my first Junior Ranger Badge, Patch, & Certificate. The girl that swore me in said that she “had never done it before” and that ”I was her first”. I refrained from making any comments, though some did cross my mind. I’m done for now (writers block). I can do that, it's my blog. ... read more

Saturday afternoon I was upstairs attempting to cut down on some clutter. I hadn’t been up there in quite a while. Too busy. Anyway, I found this travel blog from this past summer. And you will never guess where it was. It had slipped between the frontal lobe and the parietal lobe and was resting on the temporal lobe. Imagine that. Just when you thought it was safe to check your email. It was July 20th. We were staying at Kamp Komfort and decided to drive into Monte Vista. Gave us an excuse to eat at Nino’s. Darn good Mexican food. After visiting the few antique shops in town we headed back toward South Fork. Just west of Monte Vista there is a Taxidermy shop. I had my first big rainbow mounted there back in the ... read more
