a huge croc...a huge croc...a huge croc...

jumping up for a big steak!
Alas, it is the end of our 4 week tour of western australia and northern territory and we have now said our goodbyes to the fantastic 007 wicked campervan which we have lived in for the last 28 days and travelled 6,500 kilometres! (that's approx 3,900 miles!!) this week...

left the exciting turkey creek roadhouse aka "Turkey World", stocked up on beer in kununurra, crossed over the western australia border into northern territory. passed katherine - just really stopped for supplies and tourist info before hitting the road again

douglas hotsprings was amazing. it has 2 streams - one of which is about 60 degrees and the other is really cold and there is a point where the two meet and you can regulate the temperature you would like to laze about in - fantastic but there was always the thought that NT has loads of crocs so didn't spend too long there!

had a quick stop at adelaide river - the inn here has a stuffed buffalo on the bar - the actual one which was in the film crocodile dundee. just camped in a nice campsite and had a few drinkies at the bar.

Litchfield National park
national park was beautiful. it has many gorges, rock pools and waterfalls which are great for swimming in (and apparently not many crocs) wangi Falls was my favourite and we met some nice irish blokes who were crazy climbing the waterfalls and jumping in from really high ledges - i just dipped my feet in mostly! met some slovenian guys who were in a wicked van too so shared a few drinks with them in the campsite. unfortunately got eaten alive by mosquitoes. we don't have a torch and so were quite scared when going to the toilet as we heard lots of noises coming from the bushes. we are such girls!!

we did a boat tour to see the jumping crocs on the adelaide river. OH MY GOD!! this was very scary - huge 4 metre crocodiles were right beside us and jumping right out of the water to get the meat the tour guide had on a stick! It was amazing but was glad to be off the boat and away from the crocs.

kakadu national park was ace - did a 4 wheel drive tour to the beautiful spots of Jim Jim and Twin Falls. this is where some of crocodile dundee was filmed. no swimming unfortunately as crocs are know to be in these areas. A german girl was killed a few years ago by a croc after her tour guide said it was ok to swim! stayed in a cool campsite which had a pool and a nice restaurant - had the best ever tempura prawns and tried barramundi fish which is a local speciality.

Finally got to darwin - silly us didn't know it was a huge weekend in Darwin because of the Darwin Cup horse racing and could not get any accommodation. finally found 1 hostel and it was really nice but only had the friday night, luckily found 1 motel for the saturday but sunday night looks like its going to be spent at the airport - my flight is at 6am to cairns so will be a long night of boredom.

darwin is a cool party town - apparently they drink more beer here than anywhere else in australia! headed to the Vic where we had backpacker $6 dinners (less than 3 pounds) and played lots of pool with the locals (paul & jason), drank lots of Bundy (rum) & Coke, met a cute aussie squaddie and listened to lots of cool live bands cos it was a special charity night.

the weather has been beautiful and hope that this will be the same in cairns...till next time folks
jill xx
