Davenport, IA at 4:20 AM on a Sunday is quite calm. We departed with a full moon in view and headed West-towards the rain and wind on I 80. While interstates are not the preferred route they are the fastest. About Iowa City the sprinkles began followed by 30 MPH wind gusts and then the rain. We stayed in rain till Omaha when the North wind changed to an East direction to I 29 to Souix Falls. Weather radar on the GPS can be quite useful. We then took I 90 to Sheridan, WY. Total mileage was 1019 with a elapsed time of 15 hrs and 10 min which computes to 66.8 MPH avg. Wonderful moments of ..YES..road construction. Two years ago they were working on the West bound lane and now the East bound ones, so two lane traffic with speed constrictions.

Deb here: I always like to sing while I ride. When we hit the black purple clouds and wind, the song that came to mind was "Nearer My God To Thee". When we finally punched through it, "Amazing Grace" came flowing out at the top of my lungs!Funny how that works, isn't it? At the final 150 miles I was experiencing "target fixation" from exhaustion. The wind was brutal so we stopped for a bit with the clock ticking.Travel tip:If you stay in the saddle long use plenty of Anti Monkey Butt Powder. If you don't you will need the Boudreaux's butt paste trust me on this one! In all, I am glad I did this. It allowed me to find out about my inner strengths. Would I do it again?
