Sorry for the lack of updates once again, there was no internet access where we stayed in the Grand Canyon (I guess they want people to enjoy the views).

We travelled from Monument Valley to the Grand Canyon on Sunday which turned into a longer journey than expected as one of the roads we were planning to take was closed resulting in something of a detour. Unfortunately our sat nav insisted on taking us down the closed road and wouldn't recommend another route. Fortunately I had downloaded a mobile phone app before we left the UK that included all of the USA roads and so we were able to navigate ourselves. Phew...

We stayed on the north rim of the Grand Canyon in a wooden lodge which was great. The north rim is separated by only 10 miles from the south rim; however the journey from one to the other by road is hundreds of miles and takes around 4-5 hours.

We stayed at the north rim for two nights (Sunday and Monday) before travelling to the south rim to check out the views and take our helicopter trip. The helicopter trip was amazing, although I was a tad nervous. The worst part was the transition from flying over the forest to all of a sudden experiencing the huge drop as you fly over the Canyon.

We're currently in Phoenix, which is very hot. Around 41 degC during the day and 25 degC at night. Thankfully we have air conditioning!

I've uploaded 27 photos to this blog entry. These include views from both rims of the Grand Canyon, photos from our helicopter trip and some addition ones from Monument Valley. We hope you like them.

We're heading to San Diego today and staying there for two nights before flying home on Friday.

Gee
Hi guys We can't believe the trip is over Friday.. No ....what will we read in the evenings.! The photos look stunning and glad you both enjoyed the helicopter trip. Ash do you remember the fisher price camera we use to have as a child, with the circular cardboard cartridges.? A certain smokey the bear was in it and was teaching us about fire safety in the American forest. It looked exactly the same picture as the one you took... Just 40 years different, I guess something don't change. Enjoy today. See you all soon. G R J & T Xxxxx

We had seen 'Smokey' at several points around the USA on the entrance to forests but kept missing the opportunity to take the photo. Fortunately he made an appearance on the outskirts of the Grand Canyon and so managed to photograph him. I thought he looked familiar but couldn't remember where I had seen him. Thanks for reminding me. It was funny that you mentioned the circular cardboard cartridges because we saw one of those devices for sale in the Grand Canyon. Nicky remembered them as well and neither of us had seen them for years. The one we saw for sale had 3D pictures of the Grand Canyon.
