Hello, Here is our blog from a crazy new years in HCMC

We had three days and two nights in Ho Chi Minh and I really enjoyed it. It has that crazy Asian feeling with loads and loads of people on scooters and the city has a real buzz about it. I was surprised by how wealthy it was with the main shopping city full of lovely building and designer clothes stores, with the sunshine and the white marble pavements parts of it reminded me of Beverley Hills!! Ho Chi Minh also has some impressive sky scrapers and old colonial architecture, it’s a really great city.

For New Years we decided to have a mini tour of the city so about 4pm after a quick power nap we put on the only decent clothes we had in our backpacks and headed to the roof Bar on the 18th floor at the swanky Sheraton Hotel to sip cocktails and watch the sun set over the city. The Sheraton is right in the middle of downtown the prime location in the city and we sipped $10 usd cocktails (ouch!!) and watched as they closed the main square and intersection ready for a massive new years eve party and fireworks down at the river.

After a lovely sunset we decided to explore the new year’s lights as they were expecting nearly 2 million people to flood into the centre for new years!!!! It was still early, only about 7pm but the place was already packed, I have never seen so many people or scooters in my life as the whole of southern Vietnam flooded into the centre. It was going to be way to packed for us and I wanted to dump the camera in the hotel as I knew I would lose it. We were staying on the main backpacker street in the Pham Ngu Lao backpackers area soheaded here and the whole area was heaving. Street beers (50cents) and gin and tonics (75cents) are the norm here and we sat outside on the street with hundreds of other people as we listen to the live music and watched the thousands of people flood by.

For midnight we headed to the infamous Go2 bar at the end of the road for dancing and drinking into the early hours, it was a memorable way to spend new years!!
