We are in the village of Karatu for the last leg of our safari. So far our safari has been amazing! We've seen so many beautiful things.
Snake Park
-We started the safari by visiting a snake park. We saw a bunch of different snakes that are found in Tanzania and it really made us hope we wouldn't meet any of them in the wild. Specifically, we want to avoid the Black Mamba at all costs. It's a very agressive snake and its venom kills you quickly. They call it "One Cigarette Snake" because if you get bit, you won't have time to finish more than one cigarette before you die.
-At the snake park we also saw a few birds, some crocodiles and some turtles. I got to hold a baby crocodile and also a sand snake.
Manyara Lake
-We visited the national park at Manyara Lake. We got our first up-close encounters with wild animals there. It all started with a bunch of baboons everywhere! We also saw a bunch of elephants and even got a good video of them crossing the road in front of our car. We saw
some impalas and finally, we saw a real life python!!! It was crossing the street right in front of our car. Needless to say I rolled my windows up as soon as I saw it (after I took a pic of course).
-We also saw the blue-balled monkey, which I'm not convinced that's the technical term for. But they literally had blue balls! And we saw a bunch of birds, but I can't remember any of their names.
Serengeti
-We spent Christmas eve and Christmas day in the Serengeti. It was AMAZING. We camped in the Serengeti for two nights, but we had no idea it would be luxury camping! Seriously, our tent had a king-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom!!! We heard some fun animal animal sounds at night (lion, elephant, etc.), but that didn't phase us too much. We were given a whistle in case anything went wrong.
-In terms of animals in the Serengeti, we saw so many! There were a bunch of wildebeast since they were starting their annual migration. There were also giraffes, elephants, zebras, buffalo, lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, worthogs, hippos and so many more!!!
-We saw
Injured Zebra
A pregnant zebra that somehow escaped a lion. all five members of the big 5, but the rhinos we saw were very far away.
Masai People
-We visited a village of Masai people in the Ngorongoro conservation area. We got to see how they lived, what their huts were like and we also bought some necklaces from them. It was an interesting experience for sure, but I could never live in a stick and dung hut and eat only meat. Our guide said his goal was to have two wives and four kids (two with each wife).
-Masai people basically raise cattle. They are nomadic herders.
Ngorongoro crater
-Here we saw many of the same animals from the serengeti, but we also saw flamingos, a full-maned lion, and ostriches.
-We also saw a pregnant zebra who had been attacked by a lion. She had a huge gash on her side from the claw. Luckily, she seemed to be doing ok.
Pics will be added as soon as we have a more stable internet connection.
