Straight off the plane, we hit the ground running in Paris, after the first sight of the Eiffel Tower (Around the corner from the hotel), we walked 4km down the river Seine finishing up at the Lourve.
The Lourve, one of the worlds great museums, did not disappoint. We wandered through the various exhibits spending the most time in the Mona Lisa and the Egyptian exhibition.
I've always thought the best way to see a new city is to jump on the Hop On Hop off tour buses and Paris was no exception. We jumped on at the Eiffel Tower and went on three out of the four lines throughout the day, giving us a good overview of Paris.
Heading down the Champs Elysees, we saw stall after stall set up.. Of course! The Christmas markets, we jumped off the bus to get our first view of European Christmas markets and they were impressive, excited for more Christmas markets to come!
As a huge fan of a glass of bubbles, one of the main things I wanted to do was visit the Champagne Region so we jumped on a tour that took us to the Mumm and
Monet & Chandon cellars. Both cellars offered a very thorough tour of their cellars, explaining the champagne making process and the various laws they are subjected to in order to make their product. You only get to call your product Champagne if your wine is made with grapes from the Champagne region, everything else is Sparkling Wine. By law, the Champagne Houses must keep 10% of the previous years stock, to ensure that the new years is exactly the same as it hasa always been. The tours finished up with a tasting and a visit to the gift shop. While alot of the champagne production is now done by machine, there are still certains ranges of each Champagne House that is done by hand. Each Champagne House has a "riddler", the person responsible for turning each bottle of champagne after the blending process. This person may turn 50,000 bottles a day!!
While not as big as its parent, Disneyland Paris is still a fun place to visit and can still hurt the credit card! Located on the RER "A" line about 40mins from Paris, we set off in the morning, jumping on a train bound for the Disneyland stop.
However about 10mins into the journey, a recording, in English, came over the loud speaker "This train stops at Disneyland", followed by the driver saying something in French.. It took me about 5mins to work out that the train was no longer stopping at Disneyland and wouldnt actually go that far.. Wonderful. Off we hopped to wait for a train bound for Disneyland, luckily it was the next train.
Arriving in Disneyland, you have a choice of two parks: Disneyland or Walt Disney Studios.. We decided on Disneyland. Into the park we went and were greated by Main Street USA, lined with shops and restaurants.. Through to Frontierland and onto Adventure Land we went, stopping for a few rides along the way. After my experience on "The Mummy" at Universal Studios in Singapore, I wasnt keen for any big rollercoasters, thats no worries in Disneyland as there are many kid friendly rollercoaters which were also friendly on my stomach! All in all, a great fun day out and an excellent way to end our stay in Paris.
Next stop.. Amsterdam!
