tim
Tim himself! The Day I found out that we were going to an Aussie Rules Football Game, I was excited to go. True, I don't know the first thing about Footie, but I was still stoked!! We thankfully got to sleep in that day until around 11ish.
As usual, I went to breakfast, took a shower, and went to class in the kingfisher room. A few minutes after everyone arrived, one of the management trainees arrived. A nice man by the name of Tim. He is training his way up to being a General Manager. Best of luck to him... He walked in wearing a black and red jersey for a team I never heard of....some team out of Essendon; who apparently are terrible. =o) He walked up in front of the class holding his footie ball and introduced himself to the class. He began to draw out a field and stadium of the MCG, the arena where the games take place (one of the arenas). He went through, step by step and explained the rules to us, and I was slowly understanding, but when it comes to sports, I am easily confused. After a short Q&A period, we were off!
train
On the train going to the game....that guy doesn't look too happy. This time, instead of the local trams we took a train. We all crammed in, found seats and awaited our stop. After about 20 minutes we came to the MCG. Some of the kids with us were throwing the footie ball around and kicking it back and forth as we walked towards the box office. As they waited, I ran and got some slovaki =) mmm. The size of this arena was massive from the outside, I could hardly imagine the size of it inside. We entered our gates and headed up about 5 flights of long stairs (I was upset that I found the elevator after we reached the top). Some of us went straight to our seats, while the rest ran to concessions.
We asked the guy working the concessions stand if people wore the kind of jacket we were. (Mine is a white jacket with blue letters spelling out Australia across the chest, and the next to me had a pink one). He replied "mmm nah." We both laughed and figured that was a great way to spot the tourists, aside from the fanny packs and cameras worn around the neck. From that point on

Aha! The MCG :) I'm so excited I yelled "tourist!" each time I saw people wearing them.
We filed our way up the stairs to our "nose bleed" section seats. But the view wasn't bad! The speakers played loud music and specific team songs and other ads. A group of people walked out onto the field holding banners with taunts and advertisements. I found that to be an interesting way to advertise. Shortly after the teams came running out and immediately assumed their position on the field. As I watched them kick, catch, throw and tackle, I just raised my eyebrow and sighed in confusion. Thankfully Tim was there to explain things to me, I was guess certain rules given what I had seen and I was mostly right, but by half time I fully understood what the deal was. Excellent. The team I ended up cheering for was infact my good friend, John's favorite team; Kangaroos. Or as the Aussies call them "socceroos". The opposing team was the Bulldogs, who are higher up on the ladder. Roos however, on the low side. I couldn't believe how hard these guys played, tackling, hitting, falling....And we thought OUR football players were tough...you should see these guys. Sometimes

A beautiful Stadium I couldn't help but laugh because the game soemtimes looks like pure like running around in circles and in any random direction; the ball it oval shaped so when it bounces you really can't tell where its going to really go. It's kind of humorous.
The game was awsome. In the end, the Roos won! Woohoo! I was cheering and really getting into the whole game, I was surprized. The only downfall was when the 3 10 yearold kids kept throwing food for the birds in the stand and roughly 50 seaguls kept flocking over our section, luckily, no one was on. On the way out, I stopped down in the gift shop and bought some Kangaroo stuff for my friend. He better appreciate these things....
One of the coolest parts of my visit there was the fact that after the game they let the fans down on the field. A loud horn went off and Tim explained that was the notification horn that people could go onto the field. People rushed out there and foot balls began to fly every which way. Dusk was setting in so the lighting was awsome with camera flashes, laughs and people

This is how the Aussies taunt ducking from the footie balls. Justin, one of the people on the trip managed to hit a native aussie with a ball, and then quickly turned around and held his camera up in the opposite direction so he could cover his own ass. From the look the woman had, it seemed like she thought it was me because I was laughing so hard. Shortly after that all the security guards came out with ropes and slowing walked across the field to comb (if you will) us to the sides where the exits where. This was definately a memoriable experience.
I think I love this sport!!
As I walked into the cold night with the rest of the gang, I began to get tired. When I'm cold- I get tired quick, my eyes gloss up and I get quiet. This = leave Anthony alone time. Thankfully the train came in about 10 minutes and I had a chance to rest my eyes until we hit Swanson street.
If I had the option- I wouldn't come back to the states...I love it here...can't all my friends and family just move here? Although...I am enjoying this independent thing. (Minus the
